I just picked up an olive drab Bucklite II (424) from ebay for $20. It's really nice but I'm wondering what steel the blade is. Possibly 425M? It has these markings on the tang:
BUCK
424.
U.S.A.

I can't post now but I'll take a picture tomorrow and put it here.

It was pre Date code so it coud be 440 or 425M. I guess I will have to look it up in the catalogs of the BCCI web site.

Just looked in the catalogs, it appears that they were introd in 84 and pictured in 85 but it didn't specify the steel, but I'm going to guess by the description that its going to be 425M.

Cool. (and thanks for looking that up) That's what I was hoping for. I think this may be my first Buck in that steel.

I will be 425M as 420 didn't start being phased in until 93 year date. Pre-year date codes blade are safe to say 425M. I like that steel as it's a good performer. DM

It's amazing to me how the OD looks so different depending on the light. In the ebay pics the seller didn't mention the color and I initially thought it was black. Then, after looking awhile I thought it would be the maroon color. This green is kind of a chameleonish color...I think it's pretty cool.
