I was wondering about the 1st Generation BRK Native.
What does the BRK stand for?
What makes the 1st gen different.
Is there something wrong with that knife. Elsewere on the net some people seem to avoid them.

BRK = Blue Ridge Knives

As for the other info if you do a search you will find the answers.

Hi Clint, not to blow my own horn, but the Natives page on my website gives a pretty comprehensive explaination of the BRK, and the reasons people avoid them.

Hmmm, very timely. I just heard of the BRK native today and your website was very helpful.
Thanks Deacon, nice site.

Thank you. That was EXACTLY the kind of answer I was looking for. So the BRK is not a good representive of Spyderco.

I asked because I am looking at comparing different serration patterns. I think a Delica is the best bet. Any ideas where this Spyderco newbie can find one at a good price(I don't need a super steel).

Glad you liked it edgetrip, glad I could be of help Clint. My favorite Spyderco dealer is New Graham Knives. Their prices, while not the absolute lowest on the net, are extremely good, and, unlike at least some of the real "lowballers", they actually have the knives in stock, ship them to you promptly, and will still be around next month if you have a problem. Plus, Mike and Mary Beth are always a pleasure to talk to.

I realy appreciate the info on your site, too Paul. IMO, the better examples of the BRK were decent enough "pocketknives," but not good enough "Spydies." I have one in my collection because I like Natives, but I wouldn't buy another BRK unless it were under $15.00 and I could check it out first. The six I bought were mostly usable, but one or two were just not up to "average $20.00 quality." The folks who bought them from me seemed pleased overall, though. The BRK is an interesting story and is at least useful for comparing quality with "real" Spydie FRN Natives.

To me, the real "problem" with the BRK is that it's very difficult to explain to someone who is not a real "knifeknut" how a knife that says SPYDERCO on it in three places, and has the Spyderco "bug" logo on it in three places is some how a Camillus and not a Spyderco. Heck there are days when I have a hard time getting my own head around that one. Put another way, it can be very hard trying to convince someone why they should not to judge all Spyderco knives based on their experience with a BRK Native.
