Past 2 months I have been doing a lot of reading on the Khukuri and some history behind it. Wanted a H.I. but it was a lil out of my price range so I almost settled on a Khukuri House Panawal Dotted (their version of the Ang Khola). To my amazement I found a H.I. on a Tennessee Auction House site. They said the blade was about 12" and had Rose Wood handles. So I joined in the fun and won the H.I. for unreal price !!!
Here she is !!!! Would like to see if there is anyone who can help me with the markings on the blade.

Now here is my only sad part about this experience. Received the box and noticed 2 corners of the box had damage. Opened the box and found damage to the Rose Wood handle and end cap. I think USPS was using my box as a drop test from a very high building. Notified the auction house about the damage and that the description they gave was not right (12" blade was really 9 1/2 "). They refunded my money and told me to keep it. Mad as hell but Happy at the same time, weird.

What to do about the handle ? Wood putty and wrap the handle :barf: I love the way the wood looks so much :(

looks like a keshar lal, the oldest kami at HI, a great first piece, I would wrap the handle with parachord and wax it , maybe just at the end? I hate to cover the grain of the beautiful woods as well. welcome to the forum, hope you stay a while ! and remember that you can get some super killer deals on the forum if you wait for the DOTD postings ( deal of the day) sometimes damaged and very cheap khuks come through.

also from Tennessee, best state. ;)

I'd be sorely tempted to try and repair that missing chunk. Either with the piece that broke off if it's intact and still available or just a similar looking wood.

Have to pound the pommel back out some, might be challenging but the knife is so nice it's worth considerable effort to fix it up right.

Another option would be to just reduce the size of the bell all the way around so it just bells out a little.
Knife not being overly large it should work fine.

Could consider that plan B if plan A don't work out.

Good luck, it's a nice knife.

Nice knife Brother A and welcome! Is that the chip in the pic buried in the plastic? if so looks like it would be easy to clamp back down with some wood glue. Like Mr. B said tap it out first to get it back aligned to original position then glue. A little sanding to touch up and should be fine. If theres still some cracks or spaces where some wood may have chipped out then fill with epoxy and sawdust mix then sand to finish. Id put the but end down against a wood block or something not too hard with the tip up and hammer it back. That will give the rest of the handle support so you dont damage other spots or further loosen the keeper.

If you have the wood and the Khuk is indeed a Bura, use Acraglas to affix it back in place and not glue, Crazy Glue, or El Cheapo epoxy. Or, sell it to me.

apparently I just sold several salyan memorial knives as keshar lals when they were bura's!!! what a fooool I was,but some people got some great collectors pieces

This right here! And put my name down as a second if the deal with Bookie falls through.
I had no clue it was a Bura. Being your first that may not mean much but think Mona Lisa of the khuk world and you have Bura.

Bummer about that handle! Looks like the broken off chunk is still in the wrapper, so I would definitely try and epoxy it back on. Otherwise, that looks like a great blade!

That handle is not a terribly hard fix-acraglas or system 3 and maybe a blind pin, some sanding and you're off.
Gehazi, wish I'd known the salyans were Buras...

That's a Bura piece. It has shop one markings on the blade.

I know of no specific "shop one" markings. It has the same markings all HI khukuri are supposed to have.
The only way to really tell if it is a Bura is to read the kamis initials.

I just checked, and it is indeed a Bura piece. Made between 2005 and 2010. By the looks of it I would be inclined to say closer to 2010 when his quality was suffering a tad after the last stroke.

Those Salyans were indeed Keshar Lals. Theyre the ones you got from me.

Welcome to the forum, Brother Ali. If you are not careful, you might want a companion for it. And then, a couple of buddies and pretty soon - all the khuks in town. :topsy_turvy:

Thank You for the Welcomes, the help for deciphering the marks on the blade and the fixes for the handle !!!!! I will fix her up using acraglas and post pics when done. Now that I know who made this fine piece (Bura) I am not going to take it camping or out for yard work. I will save my pennies for the Ang Khola Chiruwa. If I let her go I will keep you guys informed, Bookie and Bawanna.
The sheath is also different from others I have seen. Kinda looks like it can go through molle webbing ?

Great news is that it looks like the wood though chipped is all there. with patience you should be able to repair it and will have a great small Khuk. Congrats on your new case of HIKV :D it really isn't a painful disease...as long as you aren't too attached to your wallet and budgets and such. Look forward to seeing how this goes back together. I am sure many here will be happy to offer helpful info should you run into trouble.

I fixed it for ya. Its special. Use it gently. Bura didn't really build wallhangers I don't think but it deserves a special place with me, I mean with you.
