Afternoon all!

I made a thread a while ago in regards to a recommendation for a modern blade, but I feel like I went about it the wrong way. I feel like I was too picky and snobby. So, I feel like letting loose a bit and seeing what happens.
I, as I said before, spend almost every waking moment int he traditional section of this forum, so forgive my ignorance.

I want to take the plunge and get myself a high-end modern folder. The spyderco's I own back home served me well, but I want to try other brands I have never dealt with before and....sigh...try out a super steel to see what all of the fuss is about  :D

My specs?

-3.5" max length
-Would like to stray away from flippers
-I'm ok with coatings and stuff now (gotta leave my mind open to new stuff right?)
-I am in Japan atm, so shipping is crazy, so I would like to keep the price...reasonable...

I was looking at a LionSteel SR2 and thought it looked nice. Pricey, but seems really well made. What are your thoughts? What should my first high-end OHO be?

It feels weird looking at these knives, like its a guilty pleasure...hope my slippies dont get jealous!!

Thanks everyone!
-Jim

Lionsteel Sr2 is a bit bulky. You may end up hating it due to the pocket real estate it will take up. I'd suggest something a bit more slim like a Benchmade 940, or Emissary if your interested in AO. Maybe a Mcusta Tacticality.

Fair enough, I didn't realize how big it was!

AO isn't really my thing, what about that HEST folder I've heard so much about? Is that any good? I've never used D2; I love tool steels, but haven't used D2 surprisingly.

Spydie Caly - there are different variations enough to keep you occoupied for a while. Caly 3.5 Super Blue is my favourite.

I don't know what your budget is, but here are some ideas:

Hogue EX-01 3.5"

Zero Tolerance 0550

Although I personally don't like hollow grinds and don't carry tip-up, but maybe it'll suit you well:

CRK Sebenza

Strider SNG

Benchmade 940 Osborne S90V

Spyderco Manix S90V

One of the discontinued Para 2's like the one with M390

Whats the price range? it seems from what your looking at to be around $200

HEST is a little gimicky but a good knife. D2 is a quality steel but you have to take care of it or it will rust

Most ZT's are really flippers even though they do have thumb studs.

Bradley Alias 1 or 2

Benchmade 909 Stryker

BM 707 Sequel

Microtech Socom Delta

Microtech Socom Elite

I would like to keep it around 200 at max, I still have to get decent stones or a system out here.

Huh, striders look really nice...
But that price tag! haha That seems to be my big thing about OHO's; if I find something I like, it is always expensive. Are striders worth their price tags?

The ZT550 may have to do.

I reeeaaallllyyyyy like the Zero Tolerance 0560BW with the stone wash better, but it is illegal to carry back home by a 1/4in :(
The handle is what draws me to the 0560 most honestly, I love that look on both the G-10 scales and the titanium on the pile side of the knife so much.

I swear this happens every time I want to buy a knife, its too expensive or illegal to carry!!! Ugh!

This will probably be the best bet then. Unless you want to break the bank with a small Hinderer XM18......

that would be a negative, hehe. I may settle for the 0550 and see how it goes

The only thing that turned me off of the 0550 is that, on the pile side (the Ti side), I love that scalloped look so dang much. It adds a lot of dimension to the knife. Aw well, beggars cant be choosers!

Before I commit, are thre any other blades that have that textured look on the titanium scales?
