Not perfect, but it turned out a lot better than I figured it would, for my first hollow ground blade. Had to use the 5" serrated wheel, as my 12" wheel wouldn't track properly. :grumpy:

But, this one should make a heck of a shop knife. 1084 tool steel, 1" wide x 3/16" thick. Gave it a 15 minute soak at 1485 and full quench into Parks 50. I have no doubt this one got harder than a wood pecker's lips! :p:D Did a quick 1 hour temper(bedtime, ya know) and stuck it in the freezer overnight(what the heck, it won't hurt, right?). Two more longer tempers to do today and I'll finish it up. No fancy finish on this one. Just gonna clean up the bevels and false edge a bit and wrap some 550 cord or leather shoestring around the handle and cut stuff with it.

Looks good! I hollow grind with a 10" wheel on 1/8"-1/4" thick steel and am surprised/impressed with how the 5" looks. Should be able to make a nice secondary bevel on it to make a nice cutting knife. I would not be able to help myself....I would have to finish it up with a nice polish or bead blast it.

That looks real nice! try some distal tapers, are you swaying at the grinder, arms tucked and tight? you can really create beautifull hollows when you find a rythym.

I like the looks.
Just clean it up and leave 'er as she is. I wouldn't cordwrap her.

I'd carry it as it is! That looks really sweet. I like the finish on the flats, and the machine finish on the grind. Makes a nice little skeletonized necker. Make a kydex sheath, and you're ready to go!

Awesome hollow btw. I haven't tried one yet, and if mine came out halfway that nice I'd be happy.

okay fess up, how many blanks did you destroy before getting one to look that good?? :)

did you use a tool rest??

awesome grinding my friend.. !!!

No tool rest used and no blanks ruined before this one. But, I'll admit that it DID take me seemingly forever to grind this. I am pretty slow to begin with(grind one side, dip the blade, look at it under the light, etc...), but, this one took even longer.
