So, i picked up an edge pro a good 8 years ago now due to my incompetence at hand sharpening.
Got the chosera stones up to 10k.
Love them. Problem is Most cracked. So time for some new stones.
Well as of late, I’ve been using the chunk of 3k and 10k by hand. Turns out the edge pro taught me how to hand sharpen. I actually think I get better edge on my edc by hand finishing.
Sooo, Started looking at bench stones. Primarily the 10k. Then I caught the dang bug. Started looking at the jnats. Now I have to have one.
I ordered up a shapton 220, coticule, chosera 5k. Still got the chosera 400 thats great for resetting a bevel.
I only have one ss knife, beyond junk kitchen knifes. S30v pm2. The others I care about are m4, 5150 and blue 2?
I really love the feedback from my choseras, and love the finish off the 10k. Hoping for something that will finish similar... I originally was going to order from cktg. The oriha tomae. After finding aframes website Im questioning wether or not I should wait for them to restock or go and spring for a nakayama or shobu.
I realize I probably sound like a babbling idiot. Hoping that some of you have been in my shoes and can lend some insight to help and guide me into a purchase I do not regret.
I fix on using my edge pro for re profiling, setting bevels. Lately I’m liking the edges from taking my chosera 400 real light, removing the bur. A few passes with the 3 or 5 k then using the 10k. I have it pictured in my head that the jnat can take the place of the 10k.
anyhow, thanks in advance for any insight y’all can lend me

Been wanting a bigger coticule myself, but by the time I get a bigger coticule I am already in the JNAT price range. I don't see much in the way of interest in JNATS here and I don't do much more than dabble in them. Be careful out there...

I have a few dozen jnats. And 6 coticules. Among other nats that I use for razors. But for knives I don't see a reason to use anything but diamonds. My dmts and recently the venev bonded diamond work on everything.

Honestly, I hate the feeling of my dmt. I got one in my elk hunting pack for in the field. I love the chosera stones. Just want something different. I am ordering an odd shaped nakayama to see what its all about. I like a refined edge on my edc, hunting knives, and broadheads

I do though understand your point. When Im pinched for time at all taking my knives to the 3k chosera gave me a great edge.
Sharpening has become something much more than a practical endeavor for me. Screwing around with a new blade. Watching the bevel brighten. Bringing about an edge beyond what is necessary. Gives me a lot of satisfaction.

So, I got a chunk of coticule on a aluminum blank for the e.p... feels great. Dont think its going to work on the system though. Super soft stone. I cant seem to refine an edge with it yet. Thinking on getting it real muddy and freehanding it next time I get it out.

Those stones are going to be for last step only. Any natural finisher besides an Ark is going to be relatively soft, you don't want to be trying to remove much steel with those, just the high spots left from the prior step. Is there an 8k DMT available for the Edge Pro? Feedback is not great on those either but they do produce a very nice edge once broken in.

Natural stones are only a suitable option for low-alloy steels. Anything with even a modest amount of chromium carbides in it will not perform well on it. But simple carbon steels will do fine.

Im not sure, most diamond stones for the ep dont seem to be more than 2k.
Im totally into having a few, especially for the dang edge pro.
I hate stainless, but my pm2 is s30v and my most used/carried knife. Seems like diamonds put a real nice edge on it. If I create a good burr on that blade, I play hell removing it. Like the metal wants to roll or something. Idk.
I got a thinner, odd shaped nakayama on the way. Im sure the thing wont be the end all be all for all my knives. I do hope I can find a few that get along with it though. Id be a liar if I said thats my last stone.
I think a 10k chosera bench stone would be a great addition to my gear, as finishing with it on the ep, and now with a little chunk freehand produces a really great edge. I think a 3k chosera bench would be cool to as my ep stone is really nice. Like super hard feeling but fast as hell to create mud and seems to cut super fast. I have to be careful, as I am far from wealthy and I get myself in trouble when I start thinking I need stones and knives

Im looking at this sucker to serve the same purpose as the 10k. Just to put that final touch on em. If they are anything like this coticule I got I think I may have some serious work to do to get proficient with it

Got the stone. Took my spring steel kitchen knife to it. Wasnt to sure so I built up a slurry with my dmt hone. Beautiful edge. Got out my bark river that Ive ground a 20• bevel into. I really like the edge the stone produceddont seem to pull a mirror polish out but its like a perfect toothy yet refined edge

If the steel is suitable, a JNat will produce an edge that's about as good as they get. I like mine, but they definitely are not suitable for the fancypants steels.
