Finally!!!After much trial and error, including a cracked blade during heat treat(re-profiled the blade),a soldering fiasco and assorted cuts and scrapes,my 1st knife is done!!!

It's 10 3/4" overall with a 6" blade, copper guard and rosewood handle. The picture doesn't show the mosaic pin very well but the poor quality photo also hides the flaws.Being that I have a limited budget I had to use re-cycled materials, the blade was a chainsaw bar,the guard was an old copper electrode and the handle was a busted up picture frame

Let me know what you like and DONT like about it.

REbos, that is a very nice looking knife!! I especially like the recurve in the blade and the way the handles are curved to fit the copper guard. You should be very proud and happy! Take care! Michael

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!http://www.nebsnow.com/L6steel

Very nice! Attractive lines that flow. You put my first knife to terrible shame.

KEEP IT UP!!!

Impressive. As much as I dislike recurves due to sharpening, and how they look on some knives, on a very 'curvy' knife like that, it looks amazing. That think looks more like it was born than made. Incredibly organic. Stick with it, and I shudder to think what you'll be making in a couple years

What's not to like! Great first knife, I really like the "flow" through the entire design. Did you do the heat treat yourself?

rebos, that is a great knife. Great lines and I'm impressed with your use of found materials. I can't find any flaws.
How does it cut? Does it hold an edge?

Thanks for all the kind words guys,in answer your questions,,Yes I did the heat treat myself.I made 2 forges, one from an old scuba tank and one fron an old R.O.tank.I used the one from the scuba tank cuz it heats more evenly, quenched in oil, then tempered in a small oven I found out back of an electronics assembly shop.I have no idea what they used it for but it works great for tempering. As to cutting it actually cuts better than I expected and holds its edge pretty well.I plan to make a sheath and take it out hunting with me this season, then i'll really know how it performs.thanks again

Howdy There.....!
For a fisrt I think it is great...! I really like the design and the flow of the overall knife. The blade looks flat grind, is it? I think you have donbe an excellent job, and like someone else said the next one is going to be harder. I know that with each one that I make I try to improve over the last one. Keep up the great creativity.

Thanks again,,It's not flat ground it's convex.I managed to modify an old delta 1x30 so it had more belt tension,so the blade is pretty close to flat.Number 2 is getting there.

Great job!
I like the lines and the curves and the fit. What wood and finish did you use for the handle?

OK, I'll tell ya what I don't like about your first knife...It puts mine to shame by comparison!! Beautiful flow, nice ergonomics and excellent attention to detail. I figure that I should be somewhere near your caliber in about two or three years but by then, your knives will have surpassed all your own expectations.

"You will always set the bar a little higher with each knife and as a result be continually challenged to be better...and you will meet and exceed it." A quote from a familiar poster of this forum, Jerry Hossom.
