What do yall think? -honestly!

I plan to make one of these as my first knife. I have designed it based on some Scandinavian designs I have liked. There are no inside curves because the grinder I have won’t easily grind out tight radii. Also, I figured the grinds on a short blade would be a bit easier. The wood is the actual scales I will use. the total length is about 5.5" and the blade is a little over 2".

I didn’t plan to post this. I was scanning a sketch I had of the blank to laser cut a pattern, and then it progressed so I just decided to post it.
-is it weird to post a knife that I want to (will) make? -haha

Thanks for your input.

Not at all wierd. I've done it to in order to get feedback on a design. Looks like it will be a unique little blade. What did you mean by a tight radius?

thanks.

what i mean is that with my grinder, and lack of small contact wheels, i wont really be able to get into grinding finger grooves and small inside curves. but i guess i could get something to work.

JLK,Very unique design.:DDo like I do,Use your platen.Run your belt off a 1/4",You should be able to profile pretty tight radiuses.

To do tight radii, you could put a small dremel sanding drum in your drill press and profile it that way. They make little tiny (1/4") sanding drums.

I also think you need to lengthen the overall length just enough to increase the length of the ricasso. That will keep the handle material from being contacted while cutting. I like the tilted grind and the tilted handle material to match the grind, however, the tilting is actually what might cause you to want to increase the length of the ricasso slightly. The handle material is above parts of the plunge grind. Increasing the ricasso just enough to get the handle material behind the plunge would be more attractive (IMO) and solve the getting in the way of the handle material at the same time.
