I ordered 12 blade banks all laminated #1's. I have finally got the size/shape of ash for a handle. Do I need a specific type of epoxy for the tang? I plan on using this one for fishing. Others I'll use for camp/food prep.

i don't know of any major differences in epoxy types, but i think it is the right choice. cant wait to see some pics!

I believe that the generally accepted go to epoxy that is readily available is Devcon 2 ton epoxy. It may not be the best, but you can get it anywhere.

Search on the subject, and you will find some tests that are surprising.

Most epoxies that you might find at the local hardware store should perform just fine for you. Some are a little picky about mix ratios and mixing, but if you take a bit of care to measure them out and mix a bit longer than you think youo should, you'll have some great knives that'll last and last.

For a bit more mechanical grip to the tang, run a file across the tang several times to give it some tooth. The epoxy will grab those nooks and crannies inside the handle.

Good luck and show off your knives when you finish them.

I did better. I have an old bread knife file which I've run on the 4 sides of the tang. When I get a camera, I'll take a few pics of this and other knives.
I found out that folks look at you funny if you put a knife in a copy machine. The pic doesn't come out nice either.

I used wood-filling epoxy so it looked natural in the drilled tang hole. Other people have simply added sawdust to the epoxy mixture. Have fun with it! I loved doing mine!
