Hello everyone! I hope you all are having an awesome year!

Here's the first Mastersmith knife I made after getting my Mastersmith certification. I've made a few other knives since getting my MS but this knife was the first one I started on and devoted lots time on after getting the MS stamp so that's why this is MS #1. :) Specs to follow.

The blade is 13" and it is forged from 1080 and 15N20 in a Mosaic Damascus Pattern on the top two thirds of the blade, running along the edge of the blade is a bar of Twist Mosaic Damascus. The handle is blue/cream colored Fossil Mammoth Ivory from Alaska. The fittings are of the same damascus pattern as the blade, Twist Mosaic, only in a tighter pattern. The file worked liners are of German Silver and they are a full Vine pattern. The blade has been ground on an eight inch wheel to give it a hollow grind. The clip has been ground deeper than the blade on a three inch wheel so it can be sharpened if wanted. This is the second blade I’ve ever hollow ground. The blade has eight solid 14 karat gold pins and the handle has four solid 14 karat gold pins. All the pins have been domed to give them really good holding abilities and to add texture to the knife. This knife is a take-down for maintenance purposes. I also made the sheath and it has a gator skin overlay. The blade in this puppy is a full 3/8 inch think, BTW! :D So this bowie has some real heft to it. :) The balance point is on the ricasso though so it does feel nice and balanced.

My brother, Caleb, did the photo of the knife and I think he did a great job! I did the shot of the sheath so don't hold the bad photography on that against Caleb. ;) Let me know what you think! :)

I would really like to thank the fellow Forumite here for asking for this knife so long ago and for giving so much input into the design. He really was great to work with and he gave me lots of time to finish up some other knives in-between projects that I was working on. Thanks! I hope you get many years of enjoyment out of this knife. :)

Awesome. You did a great work on that Bowie

Holy canole.

I think you launched full-blown into MS status with that one in a big way. The entire package is stunning!

WOW! I don't even know where to start with the compliments:eek: So many skills being displayed and perfectly executed. I like it all.

Great job Kyle:thumbup:

That level of artistry is rare indeed Kyle.... My brain spasms looking at it!

Very, very nice. Spectacular work.

The only thing I don't really like is the "hook" sticking out from the buttcap. Other than that: impressive knife.

Congratulations on your MS rating!

Kind regards,

Jos

WOW Kyle...that blade seems to go on FOREVER! VERY nice details, sheath and awesome piece of mammoth! A GREAT example of MS skills. Must be even nicer if holding it!

Kyle, what an beautiful piece that is. It's great that you and Caleb post these to
your Flickr account in large format. For those interested, you can click on the pic
and go to the Flickr page. Click on the pic again and you'll see 'View all sizes"
on the upper right hand. Click on "Original 3850 x 2975". It may take a moment
to load but it gives an extra large and highly detailed view. Really makes the work
that much more impressive (if that's possible).

Hope you don't mind me mentioning this but it's one of the things I enjoy most
about your posts. I've never seen it mentioned before and it really shows your incredible
attention to detail.

Beautiful work,
David

Kyle,

This piece screams MS, but you've been doing work at that level for quite a while, imo.

Too many superb details to comment on but I do want to mention I just love the way
you added the bar of twist mosaic at the edge.
Your skill level is interstellar and Caleb's photos are just fantastic.

Thanks for sharing and Congratulations to the lucky new owner !

No problem at all David! Thanks for letting everyone know about that. :) You can really see more detail with the original full sized pic. :D

Thank you all a bunch for the kind words! :D You all are too kind. :) This was a fun challenge for me to build and I learned some new techniques and tricks while building it along the way.

Again, thanks for the compliments everyone! :)
