So my 1st OKC knife arrived last night. An Afghan 9419TM. It is a factory 2nd so the price was right...big thanks to CRKS :D. I wanted an inexpensive but capable fixed blade for camping and hiking and this was spot on. I have several knives from folders to bowies. Wouldn't say im a collector, more of a purveyor of good user knives. The best is a 30yr old BuckMaster survival knife that sits in the safe now and a couple Condors I use for camping. I wanted something not too expensive that could stand up to heavy use of all varieties that was smaller than my Hudson Bay and bigger than my Bushcraft Basic. Hence the Afghan. And I really like it!

My overall impression is 100% positive. It fits my small to medium sized hands well (will be even better after sanding) and I like the weighting. It should be great for chopping strikes and batoning. The blade thickness and grind may not be best for fine slicing tasks but in a pinch I think it will be fine. The only flaw I see in my specific knife is an overun logo on the right side of the blade (kind of a ghost image). Also the scales aren't perfectly flush which I've read is common even with 1st production runs. Not a big deal as I plan to sand them, or possibly change them out to a set of black micarta scales (trade anyone?), or make my own hardwood scales. Other than that it has has no other flaws. The blade is a thick & wide beast. The black coating is slicker than I expected but looks good and should hold up.

In researching fixed blades there was a lot of negatives about the OKC molle sheath. I'll be honest I think its just fine. It's well made and offers a variety of carry positions. Mine has no rattle and even holds tight without the strap when held upside down. The pocket will hold a stone, striker or matches...or more importantly a small bottle opener ;). I'll likely have a kydex sheath made regardless just because I prefer them. So that's my $.02 on the Afghan.

Oh the logo on the right side says "Task Force Falcon" and has other words with a circling helicopter. Anyone else seen that? It also says ONTARIO USA on that side near the handle rather than just ONTARIO.
