I'm excited. I generally carry around a stockman, either a Buck 301 or 307 for the most part. I've carried stockman knives around for about twenty years now. I remember when I was a kid trying to decide between the stockman or trapper as my pocket knife, and I never did get that trapper. Then last Christmas my mother in law gave me my first Case knife, a stag tiny stockman. Way too small for the pattern, but I still liked the little knife. The Case was a lot different than my usual Buck.

Now I have my first Trapper coming to me by way of the USPS. Should be here any day now, and I'm not good at waiting. I ordered up a Case Trapper with CV blades and Chestnut Bone scales. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the pattern stacks up after twenty years of having a sheepsfoot blade at my beck and call. Looking forward to developing a patina, too. Think I'll let it patina on it's own over time. Thought I'd use the spey blade for food and the clip for everything else. I've never really been sure what to do with the spey blade on my stockmans, so I generally put a pretty steep angle on it and use it as the beater blade. Don't think I'll do it to the long one on the trapper though.

I know there's no pictures in this, but I'll post one once it comes to me. I just thought I'd talk about it here because no one I know personally cares about knives at all and it's nice to have someplace to talk about it without eye-rolling or blank stares.

Sounds like a plan! It is hard to beat the usefulness of a sheepsfoot, but whatever it does can be done with a clip point usually. I use my spey blade as a skinning knife.

Congrats on your new knife... It should be a great one. Case did a really nice job on the Chestnut scales, and CV to boot

Sounds like a really nice choice. The Chestnut scales really appeal to me too, and have been kicking around choosing a pattern in Chestnut. You picked the right place to hang out and talk knives. Nobody here will look at'cha sideways.......

Just to make your wait a bit more agonizing.

Handy little knife. My patina was from cutting up apples.

Enjoy your new knife when you get it.

Trappers are great knives I love the spey blade it's just about perfect for most skinning and field dressing task. For the outdoorsman I feel the trapper is a very appropriate and useful knife.

Thanks everyone. Should be here in a few days. Iwt210, that is a sweet knife you have there. I'm looking forward to mine developing that kind of character. I almost got the mini trapper, but I have plenty of knives that size for everyday stuff. This one is going to spend some time in the woods.

Congrats, sounds like you you have some good taste.
It's hard to go Wrong with a carbon Case trapper, these knives work hard all day long.

I agree that you made a great choice. Trappers are my favorite slip-joint pattern. Two useful blades, alot of cutting edge and comfortable in the hand. Plus they are really good looking.
