I have a 3 knife set of the 1st production run Becker 15, 16, and 17 purchased at Smokey Mountain Knife Works, in person, over a decade ago. Should I use them? Or should I keep them pristine in box. The BK16 i wouldn't use because I have a newer model. But I'd like to test the other 2. That being said, I don't want to destroy pieces of history if that is how they are viewed by the knife community. Opinions?

use them - the "1st production run" script was a gimmick done for a specific retailer.
since both are out of production, if you don't use them, you'll spend too much on someone else's users just to keep your pristine copies.
OTOH, if you can find a user saber 16 at a reasonable price, it's a piece of cake to clip it for a close approximation to a 17.

Question....do you Like the handle grip on the the BK16 that you have?

If you love it, then use them.... If it's Meh feeling then sell them!

I really Wanted the 15, figured it would be my favorite knife....when I finally got it,
It wasnt. The handle felt small. I let it go

I don't love the material, but I love the shape and feel. So I replaced my user bk16 handle with micarta and it's in the woods whenever I am.

If you use them you'll make some people ecstatic and jealous, and some people ragey.
Beckers are users. They won't increase in value THAT much if at all, but they are very "valuable" as excellent knives.
Please yourself.

They all are hard to find and might bring a premium price. Maybe sell and get some current knives to beat on? I really like the 15 and 17 the 16 should be a Sabre grind as well.

If you're really attached to the "1st production run" hit it with some etch to make it deeper. Maybe check the market and consider selling them and buying a user, or trade. At the end of the day, though, they're yours to do as you please. I would use them as the good Lord and Ethan Becker intended.
