I've been watching Roger's scandi knives like mad while waiting for this order to come up. Just waiting on sheath specs to hand to Tess & sharpen. I hope I did it justice. It felt really weird not bringing the grind all the way to the top.

The knife is 8 1/2" long (total length) with a 275 layer twist in 1084/15N20, 4mm at it's thickest tapering to just over 2mm at the tip. The handle is stabilized Eucalyptus Burl with black liners, mosaic pins & a stainless lanyard.

J that's beautiful! The pins look great with that steel, the handle has a fantastic shape. Look out Roger! :D

J. Neilson,
Great looking scandi, I'm the trouble maker that started Roger making this type of knife. I now own two of his scandi knives, and have been watching him turn out these blades now. I really love this type of knife, its a great for: wood working and other bushcraft chores, and its really easy to resharpen with out any special sharpeners or tools.

Like I said above You have created a very beaitiful looking knife, Keep up the great work and maybe this old traditional style design will gain more popularity in the mainstream knife market.

How Bout That. Wonderful looking. Real craftsmanship J. I've been hoping for an order for a damascus bushcraft. How's it feel to only have to scribe one line for the edge? Scary ain't it. I have four profiled and ready to Scandi grind now (shudders).

Keep the spine nice and sharp. They like to strike firesteels with the spine.

As Ron above stated, he took the Ray Mears Woodlore design and tweaked in some changes and that is the knife I've been making. These knives balance very well and are quite hefty for there relative small size. They bang the crap out of the spine with stuff like wooden branches to baton through firewood and other survival requirements.

Very nice J, my kind of knife ! Ron demonstrated very well how a simple graceful knife was very practical too !.......Roger do you mean you're going to forge damascus or just buy some ?

J. Dang it all. Now I want to make one of those too.

That's a beaut! To me that's some of the best lookin' damascus I've seen on your blades.

Steve

Thanks guys but, I think I'll leave these to Roger unless it's an order of course. I'd rather do daggers. :D I'm sure the second one will be easier but, ya know how sometimes it seems a knife is cursed? It camse out OK though.

Steve, I'm hoping the next piece is better. I just finished HTing a 9" bowie of 1000 layer damascus (1084, 15N20, L-6 & wrought iron). That one's for the Koval SHow. ;)

Mete, hell no I ain't going to pound out any damascus. I figure J. owes me a bar. :D :D I also know who to recommend prospects to if I should ever get swamped  . J. nailed the grind. It takes me a six pack per blade to get up the determination and courage (all that of course is figured into material costs).

Very cool, can't wait to see what Tess comes up with for the sheath, I'm sure it'll be one heck of a combination!
