Hello there spyderco fans! I've never really understood the overwhelming love for spydies. Having never owned one, I figure I owe it to myself to finally try one out. I ordered my first (an endura4) and should have it next week. Let's face it, here on bladeforums other people's passion is contagious. Looking forward to becoming a fan of these knives.

Congratz on your first Spydie. I'm sure they'll be more to follow the Endura.
I remember my first Spydie well. The Vallotton. Lol, I was really blown away when I got her. That of course led to a more traditional Spydie, or at least that's how I rationalized it. - The Caly 3.5
And from there it really snowballed :)
My latest purchases have been the Blue 204P Domino, and an Orange Dodo. I really love the Taichung Spydies though. Think you will too in due time..... ;)

Congrats on your first Spyderco. There will be more to follow. I'm personally fond of the Golden, Co. Spydies like the Natives and Manix 2.

I figured I play it safe and go with either a delica or endura. They seemed pretty basic. There are so many options. I'm pretty intrigued by the salt line with H1 blades too.

Good choice, Endura is a work horse of a knife. One of my first and favorite Spydies. What color? Enjoy!!!

Fun experiment. My only advice is to use and carry the heck out of that endura. With some knives, you never appreciate them more than the day they arrive in your hand. The opposite seems to be true in my experience with spyderco. If you like it on day 1, you'll love it a year from now.

Completely agree, especially with models like the Delica/Endura, and Stretch, and many others. They get better with use and familiarity; they will grow on you.

The serrated salts are pretty awesome knives. They are some of my favorite and my most used spydies by far!

Good choice. I started with an Endura as well. It made an impression and prompted me to pick up... well... a few more than just that Endura. ;)

I will definately be carrying it every day. I got it in grey to stay neutral. I frequently carry a knife on my college campus and don't want to draw unnecessary attention.

Another addict in the making. Welcome to the addiction and congrats on the Endura!

If you can swing it, and decide you are going to start collecting, I would recommend buying two of whatever knife you are planning on purchasing next. One for your collection and one as a worker/user.

I would also encourage you to get any of your friends that are knife people to buy a Spyderco of some type. This is awesome because once they too are hooked, they will buy knives that you might skip over or pass on and it will give you the chance to hold it and experience it for yourself. There aren't very many brick and mortar stores left and having a few friends that are Spyderco people can go a long way in helping you decide on what your next purchase might be. It is also great to have someone around to share your hobby with who understands you and doesn't think you're crazy lol.

He's just picked up an Endura... I don't think he needs to start buying 2 of everything...?

I do agree though, nice to have other people around you with slightly different tastes but still into the same activity. Unfortunately for me, most of my friends are not into blades as much.

The two of everything was in the event he wanted to start collecting and had the funds. I have a collection of bnib Spyderco's that I will never use because I value and love them all so much. They are all gorgeous and stunning! Buying 2 gives me the ability to use one and save the other for my collection.

Once again, it is not for everyone and is extremely cost prohibitive to a lot of people, myself included.

Congratulations on your first Spyderco.

They make fine knives, and one of the nice benefits of buying from Spyderco is that Sal Glesser, the founding owner of the company, is one of it not the classiest gentlemen in the knife business.

I have a few knives from them and each one is a very nice knife that begs to be used.

best

The Endura was my first Spyderco as well, albeit that was 1993-94. The Endura of today is just as good, if not better, than it was back in the day. It will serve you well.

I am sure you will not stop at the Endura though. Spydercos are the "crack" of the knife world. Easy to start a habit with, very difficult to kick.

LOL

Living on the S Texas coast I can't be without one. pacific Salt in the boat.. Salt 1 on the wade belt.

Congrats, on the Endura! If you like a bigger knife you'll probably love it!

I started smaller with the Delica, even though it was a little small for my taste I ordered another Spyderco because I could see the quality. If one of the lower priced offerings was this good, the higher priced offerings must be stellar. They are, and I haven't looked at another company's folders since. The price to quality ratio for Spyderco folders is great, you get a lot for your money.

That was 5 weeks ago, I just ordered a Stretch on Friday. That puts me at 6 Spydies in that time. Weird thing is I like the Delica the least, but still carry it because it's just handy sometimes. My current favorites are the Manix 2 satin and black DLC, I've never had a knife fit my hand better. The Para Military 2 is second with the Tenacious next.

Be careful,

*Spyderco products have been proven by the Surgeon General to be highly addictive! Common side effects are maniacal laughter upon your orders arrival and pressing the tips of your fingers together while saying "excellent" in a longer drawn out way. Some customers have reported hand soreness from constantly opening and closing their Spyderco because of how much fun it is. If these conditions persist, contact an authorized Spyderco dealer. They'll tell you no cure for your addiction currently exists! So while you're at it you might as well order your next Spyderco:D*

Got my endura! I have to say, it's a bit larger than I expected. Maybe should have gone with a delica. I'll be giving a try for a while. So far I enjoy it a lot aside from being a tad larger than my normal carry. Already considering gettting a delica as well. Damn it! I'm gonna become an addict.

yes, yes you will. almost inevitable. the endura is totally deceptively large. I thought I was going to buy one until I tried the endura and the delica side by side in store and found the delica was my preferred knife. but, each serves a slightly different use. if I were doing food prep while camping, I'd probably use an endura. for more everyday tasks like box cutting, the delica is perfect.

Congrats! That is a great way to start off a day isn't it?!

I definitely recommend getting a Delica. I started a thread a while back about what knife should every Spyderco collector have at least one of and the Delica was definitely at the top of that list. I feel the same about the Endura as you do. Besides... I freaking love me some Delicas!
