I haven't used my old school wave in a while because I rolled the primary edge at work. So today I decided to fix it. I stropped the edge on theback of my mora (using it like a butchers steel) which certainly strightened it than I hit it up with some 400 grit sand paper followed by a slicing motion on a 600 grit diamond stone, and finished off with a stropping on my belt..seems good as new and I am happy...I've never been good at sharpening, Hopefully this is the start of a new trend for me.

Congrats RR! Sharpening has always been kind of a frustrating thing for me too. It does take practice and patience, and many times my Edge-Pro:D Feels good, doesn't it? -Matt-

Sharpening was a "one minute I didn't have it the next I did" for me too. I practiced for awhile before it came to me, but once it did it just seemed to happen overnight. Now I am fairly good at it, but some days are better than others. Just keep trying, and good job on your first successful attempt.

Congratulations, Bro'. Keep at it; don't give up. Just persevere. Sharpening free-hand on a stone, without all the gizmos, will bring you a good sense of pride and accomplishment. I use it as a form of "meditation" (seriously). Learn to "listen" to the blade, through "feeling it" on the stone, moment-to-moment. You can't take your attention away even for a moment, once the blade is on the stone. It's all feeling.
(yeah...I know that I'm going to get my balls broke severely for saying this stuff.)

Well done bro I'm not the greatest knife sharpener either !!!

By the way have I missed them or have you not posted any pics of your new Fallkniven yet ! With my memory you probably have and Iv'e already replied them !!!

Excelent new's.Nothing more satisfying than a job well done. Sharpening seem's to be a skill that is largly over looked by a lot of people and maybe one of the most important.I think in todays throw away culture its easy'er for some people to just buy a new knife than take the time to learn how to maintain an edge or sharpen one. You'r technique sound's good and it can be used in modified form to do a convex edge. for convex edge draw knife down the stone or sand paper as if you were using a wisk broom spine first as opposed to a slicing motion edge first for a beveled edge.

I have never under stood how any one could get along without the skill of sharpening. I find that I can sharpen a disposable exacto blade faster than I can change one.

I agree;it can calm me down and clear my head, most relaxing thing for me to do.

The best way to learn is practise and use some old cheap beater. I found out that cheap knifes do have a purpose...

My first knife was one I liberated from Mama's kitchen. I sharpened it on a big piece of sandstone (?) out in our back yard where I played. :D Darned if it didn't get sharp, too, and I soon learned to throw it!

Thanks for the kind words and ecouragement guys...it's much appreciated. Pit I have yetr to figure out how to post pics when I do, I got plenty to share.
