Posted over at Rat Chat but got impatient (go figure) and thought I would bring it over here for advice and I have a few questions. I have narrowed it down to a Rodent Solution. I am stuck in a couple of spots.

I like the black paper handle best and the black canvas next. Is there a grip advantage that is significant between one or the other?

Also stuck again on the blade color. I like the black and the tanker gray. It looks to me that there is more of a raised texture on the black over the gray. Maybe someone could chime in that has both finishes.

I am also curious if with the blade being coated if anyone has noticed any type of drag working with finer material?

Sorry for all the dumb questions but they gotta go somewhere.

I appreciate any input and pictures are always a plus. Thanks

I do believe that the grey coating is a smooth coating and the black coating is a crinkle. So I think the grey would be smoother. I think like wise that the black paper micarta handle is smoother than the black canvas. Black Paper is smooth but still provides secure purchase. The Black Canvas is rougher providing even more grip. The Rodent Solution was, if not is, the best feeling small blade I had ever handled. I am sure some others can give you a more in depth answer.

Thanks Steel130 I appreciate it. I have been looking at pics all morning and didn't know if it was an optical illusion but the gray looked smoother to me which is kind of where I am leaning. I do like the black color but I am hoping for less texturing on the finish. As far as the handle I am assuming that the indents down the length of the handle would provide suitable grip. I am really digging the look of this knife.

Yah the handle has really good secure grip. I have been inbetween on rebuying one of these or a paramilitary 2. And now this thread pops up so I think I am just gonna get some SR goodness haha. SR-101 is awesome steel as well .

I hear you on the para. I have quite a few of the old style and 4 of the new style 2's. They are an exceptional folder. Then again, I love those blades with holes in them. I am really having a time with deciding on which one to get. I like the black canvas with the black blade and the black paper with the gray. Please don't say get both. :) I do that too damned much haha. Decisions, decisions.

Haha. Well I am going to get a Black Paper with a sage blade I think. I do have a ton of black blades though so maybe I will switch it up a bit. Oy now you got me thinking haha. I won't say both, I will say go with whichever one caught your eye first, like made you say "Oh I like that" haha.

Im a huge fan of black canvas and tanker grey. i just prefer the feel of the canvas. I did by a tan canvas and sage for my son, looks good also

I've got a RS with black/black paper and one with black/black canvas. Personally, I like the feel of the canvas a little better. It seems a bit "grippier" to me. By no means is the black paper slick, I just like the feel of canvas better. I also have a RMD in tanker grey. That finish is smoother than the black. Depending on what kind of work you plan on doing with it, I'm not sure the black finish would have an impact on what you are doing. Either way, it's a great knife.

Thanks for everyone who posted. I could tell if I kept thinking about it I would talk myself one way or the other so I went ahead and went with my first instinct. Went with the black paper handles and the tanker gray blade. I have some Beckers, an ESEE 3, BHK maple Bushcrafter and an Izulu II that all have the black blade so this should be something a bit different. Hell, they all look good though.

Will need to find a lefty sheath with a metal clip as I don't do belt loops or tech loks. Any ideas please post up. I'm really excited to try a new brand. Been collecting Spydero for years and just got into fixed blades over the last year or so. Have some customs, quite a few BHK's and some other stuff. This should really be fun to put to work.

First off, welcome to the addiction!! Congrats on the rs purchase, and if you want a lefty sheath made just search "rodent solution sheath" on the busse for sale sub forum, I'm sure there are some listed

When i ordered one, I asked Eric which one likely had the smoothest coating, he said tanker grey. As for handle material, I love black paper, but ive got a few knives with it that had small chips in the scales, mainly around the tube fasteners, all of them were machined scales, always seems to happen around the elevated/grippy part next to the fasteners (fbm, nmsfno and SJ are the models Ive had it happen with) Nothing major, but Ive been tryin to stick to either canvas or black g10 these days when I plan to use em.

Well looks like this one may get real chipped up because I intend to put it through its paces. Just got my click and ship so now it's time to pull the lawn chair out by the mailbox. :)

Verisharp
Thanks for the welcome and I will do the search and see what I can come up with.

Okay I'm officially pissed. Got home to find out that they tried to deliver 4 minutes before I got home. Time to pull the lawn chair out again. :)

As it turns out I passed the guy and didn't realize it was him. Got home and saw the note in the box, jumped back in the car and click, click, click. Dead battery. When it rains it pours. Jumped it later and thought all was good. Went to start it this morning and click, click, click. Still have inside lights and headlights so guess it has a dead cell. Just what I wanted to do with my morning haha.

So a trip to Firestone for electrical check and new battery and a mad dash to the post office this morning and I got it. Damn this thing as sharp is can be. Alex I don't know who you are but you sharpened this knife and it amazing. Went out in the yard and snapped a few beauty shots before I give her some character lines. The knife is solid and heavier than I thought it would be. No complaints at all here. Top notch quality!!!

Oddly enough, when I first took it out I thought it was black. But when I looked at it compared to the handles I guess it is gray. Nice blending of blade to handle. Too much contrast I think would have looked funny. Damn this knife is sweet.

*SNAP*

So, my next problem was going to be a sheath. Not anymore. Was digging around and first found a leather sheath with a lefty clip that fit. Thought okay but really needs something more tactical. It is a bit more crude and bushcrafty looking but it will work in a pinch.

Then I remembered I had just got a Bush Operator from Dylan Fletcher that came with a kydex sheath and after some though, It contacted him to make me a leather sheath. I did not think for a minute it would fit but slid right in and is a pretty tight fit. Has the lefty clip too. Problem solved!
