Hey guys.
I just got the Buck 382T today, and I have to admit.... I've NEVER bonded with a knife like I did with this one. This knife is awesome. It's not a big trapper (I've never owned one, but have seen much bigger ones), yet i's not a mini-trapper. It's a medium size, but it's great. Such an old-school feel to it. This one is made in Chine, but upon inspection, I really can't tell the difference between this one and my other bucks as far as quality. It's sturdy. It's not chinese crap. Anyway, just thought I'd let ya'll know I just joined the brotherhood of the Trapper, and I love it. It feels like a classic american pattern (I've been told the definitive traditional American knife pattern). Anyone else have a Trapper and absolutely love it?

I've surprised myself by accumulating a number of Trappers. Didn't set out to, it's just that I like this pattern so much I keep picking them up. I seem to have a thing for knives with all the blades on one side.

I've got an S&M crimson bone swaybelly trapper that is just too cool. Only 420HC steel, so it won't appeal to the steel snobs, but it is superbly put together and has a real nice heft to it. I've also got a Case mini trapper which makes a very nice knife when a full size is a bit much (the office, for instance).

You might enjoy this thread from a while back.

You will find many here who like trappers, myself included. While the pattern is a we bit too much for my pockets at work, they fit well in jeans. I have a few pair in which what used to be the watch pocket is too narrow and deepfor a watch. However it makes a perfect pocket for a trapper sized knife, leaving just enough sticking up to get hold of, but not so much it will fall out easy.

Like Sam, I just keep accumulating them. Since the above linked thread I've added a Queen Crimson Bone in D2, a sweet corncob jigged, Autumn Maze boned Schatt & Morgan 1 0f 50 (I have to fight to keep from pocketing that one.), a Burnt Chimney MOP, and a Canal Street in D2. Did I mention I like trappers? ;)

They spey blade is best reserved for fine cutting and the master blade for general use. Some of the old spey blades would have "for flesh only" stamped/etched on them. This was because the spey blades would be a bit harder, hence a wee more brittle than the clip blade and were intended for skinning, in the case of the trappers. Speys on stockman and cattle knives were for, well, yup!

<Wicked grin> And so we watch traditional knife fever slowly creep across another victim, dragging him ever closer the abyss from which there is no escape. <Maniacal laughter in the background> We tried intercessions and even something like a 12-step program. They all just turned into impromptu tradin and story tellin sessions.

Now let me tell you about the time I used that....

I have wayyyyyyyyyyy too many trappers and mini-trappers to be honest. Anyway I love um all.. Every old Bone, Stag, Bone Stag, Stabilized Wood, ect.. I have many sheaths that I utilize when keeping them in my edc rotation.. Great knives!. But way to big to be carrying around in my front jeans pocket I'm sorry to say, at least the full size trappers that is!.

The mini's are a different story altogether, they are easy to tote in the old front jeans pocket...:)

The EVIL Amos Iron Wolf strikes again!!
Thanks for reminding us about that trapper thread! That was a good'un! I read the whole thing "cover to cover" all over again. Maybe I should own a few more. . . . . . .
ARRRGGGHHHHH!!!! Almost got me!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe a couple. . . . . .

Just about a year ago, now I had the one Trapper that I have carried in my jeans pocket for about 15 or 16 years. It happens to be a Frost and was, I guess an accident, because it sure has been a great knife and it's been through Hell and back....but I digress...Now I have something over 40 Trappers. They are mostly Case with various bone scales just because I like them. I've also gotten hold of some pretty nice Schrades, and a Canal Street or two. The Trapper pattern is kind of the basis of my collecting, but I also pick up a Russ Lock here and there if the scales happen to match one of my Trappers. I guess actually I'm not a collector...I'm an accumulator.
