Somethings are confusing here.In the first paragraph the 1991 is correct for the data. Then at the top is 2008 and the knife is 2005 which Buck was at Post Falls by then? DM

Timstools,

Thanks for sharing. I love the gold etch blades almost as much as Stag handles. In addition, I'm a big mountainman fan, love that time in history. Your little 103 is fantastic, just look at all of that detail.

David I think he wrote the letter after the fact..I have two rare Buck 188 M9 Bayonet's and two Strider Prototypes that Joe was kind enough to get Certificates of authenticity for me in the mist of the Buck archive sale that I hope everyone here is checking out .Sheesh... Now back on track these knives were made in the late 1980's for the M9's and Strider in the 2000's the letters are dated July 2009....

I dont collect this style but if I saw it at a gunshow I would buy it..

Hi thanks for your nice comments

The 2008 is just the date the document was written, the knife isnt 2005, Aurum Etchings closed in 1991 after Buck knives etching facility was set up and could do there own work. This was the first at the new etching facility.

Is the date stamp a + (after blowing up the picture, it looks like it)? I think the confusion is that in the posted picture it looks like a left facing T (2005 stamp).

OK, it is a +. It looked like a sideways T in the other picture and that's why DM thought it was a 2005 knife. Thanks for posting the closeup.

Tim,Thank you for clearing that up.The wording and verbage of the letter were no doubt Mr.Shorts.As I had met him.Having grown up in Garland,TX. and graduated from high school there. He was someone you would'nt forget a percise speaker of soft voice. An expert craftsman full of knowledge not easily impartedDM

yes i was suprised at how soft he spoke also..
i worked at ben hogan golf in the dfw area
(will be back there in a few days)
and they did some gold for them i think
he is working on a hush hush
"supper mileage gasoline" project now
really knows his chemistry

That is a really nice looking 1991 knife. I also, like plumber, blew up the picture and noticed it was a + sign before seeing the close up.

Thanks for sharing the story and the pictures! I love the Skinners anyways and that one is awesome.
