1x30 belt grinder modifications

What are some modifications you would recommend for a Wen 1x30 belt grinder?

Normally the platens are very thin and flex which can be a problem for grinding. Mounting a thicker piece of steel in the place of the old platen would help grinding speed and finish. If you want to go a step further you can get a glass platen liner. And use ceramic belts.

At least get a 1x42. I love my Kalamazoo. 1x30s just dont hold up

I would recommend zero modifications. Use it while you get into the hobby as is and down the road get another grinder if and when you decide you’re into it enough and know what you want. You’ve got better places to spend your money starting out than adding on to a little grinder. I have a little 1x42 I started with. I recently built myself a disc grinder which is still a MUCH smaller investment than a 2x72. The little belt grinder now serves as a dedicated handle grinder.
