I was curious if anyone has had any experience with the Rikon 1x30 50-161. It says speeds are 1,909 - 3,248 SFPM. The price isn't bad for about $160ish. I am new to knife making and currently just using files. I know the 2x72 is the way to go. If it was in my short term budget I'd wait. It more in the long term (couple years from now) .I figured this may be better quality then the HF and they don't make the Craftsman 2x42 and nothing on Craigslist.

Looking for some feedback.

Thanks

There is a Palmgren 2x42 sander on Amazon that appears to be identical to the Craftsman.
I started with a HF 1x30 but soon switched to a Craftsman. The 1x30 sees little to no use now.

That Rikon sure is interesting though. You'll be going through belts faster but the variable speed and extra power and low price might give it an edge over the 2x42.
Plus, if you're going to be going to a 2x72 in the future I could see that little Rikon still being useful when you need the narrower belt or disc sander.

Looks like the WEN 6515, except in blue, and 3x the cost. Many of these cheap Chinese power tools are made in the same factory and get sold under different brands.

I agree with they all look similar and are probably made by the same people. The picture is of the 1x30 but they make one variable speed with 3/4 hp motor. But I haven't seen one in person. I might look into the palmgren 2x42.

Here is the link to the variable speed .
