1x30 VS “grinder”

Seeing several brands being advertised. Looks like the VS is better than the Grizzly 1x30 VS and these look like miniature versions of the big boys. For less than 2 bills I may have to play with one.
Anyone know anything about them?

ETA Even has a tilt feature

Depends on what you need the grinder to do. Are you just mucking around in the garage as something to do or are you taking this seriously?

I had an old 1x42 that was horrendously bad I only ever made 4 knives on it.

I upgraded to a 2x48 when I decided to take knife making seriously and quickly out grew that grinder but was able to comfortably use that grinder and work withing its limitations.

I moved to a full 2X72 and I’d never go back.

I’d say if you’re not making them to sell and turn a profit than sure get the 1X30 but most likely you’ll be disappointed with it in the long run.

I don't know anything about them as I have never used one, but I think it would be cool to have a little mini linisher tucked away in the shop for working on handle materials and sheaths. Might look into it myself👍

I have been thinking about getting a medium speed 1x30 or two for a mobile knife sharpening side hustle.

I was checking out variable speed 1x30 linishers, and stumbled across pipe sanders.
They seem to use 1 1/2"x30" belts but might run narrower belts with modifications. They have switch style variable speed, but I don't think nuance is hugely important for a tool like this.
A person would have to figure out how to build it into a stationary structure, and probably increase the spring strength, but they are cheap and small and will sand some stuff.

Several things piqued my interest with this one. The real variable speed that the Grizzly 1x30 was lacking (too fast on lowest speed)), the small diameter contact wheel and the tilt feature.
Robust? Hell no, but I see it possibly fitting the bill on some scale shaping/finishing, sharpening and light clean-up tasks.
