I like the working setup of the Work Sharp Ken Onion system with the Blade Grinding Attachment. I especially like that no matter what edge angle you're working to get, you always keep the blade horizontal (i.e., parallel to the floor.) For me, this is a natural way to work, and makes it easy to keep a constant angle between the blade and the abrasive belt.

The only significant shortcoming I've found with the system is the somewhat constrained choice of belts, and their relatively high prices, when compared to what's available in a standard belt size like 1x42.

Does anyone sell a conventional 1x42 belt sander which allows the belt arm to pivot, thus allowing the angle of the working portion of the belt (with respect to the floor) to vary continuously between zero and 90 degrees?

This is the closest I've found -- but it's 230V only, and uses other than a 1x42 belt:

I mounted a Rockwell 1X42 belt sander on a tilt table. I set the angle with an angle cube. After sharpening a few strokes on one side of the blade, I walk to the other side and take a few more strokes. I like to stand facing the edge of the belt and platen. It's easier to visualize the vertical hold that way.

The closest I found is Grizzly G1015 with 2x72 belt, where arm tilts from 0-90°
