is it awkward, or perhaps even dangerous to use 1x72" belt on a 2" wheel or platen? i would think the 1" of exposed contact wheel might cause some problems if one's hand isn't perfectly steady...

i really like a 1" belt for some stuff and am debating whether to replace my old 1x36" POS grinder with a nice 1x42", or just buy 1x72" belts for the 2x72 grinder...

I use them quite a bit,you can get scalloped edge ones from TKS or you can spilt 2" belts. The scalloped edge ones don't dig in as much making it easier to work in small areas.

I don't see a problem on a slack belt or a platen for that matter, as the platen isn't moving. I do see a problem on a contact wheel as the exposed and rapidly spinning rubber may "grab" your work and cause you to dig into the belt/wheel, especially as you approach a finished knife.

If you want a scalloped edge and don't want to spend the money you can use pinking shears to cut 2x72 belts into 1x72s and it leaves a "feathery" edge.
