Hey im looking to buy a knife for my boyfriend for his birthday
have been doing a lot of research on brands and what not.

I have heard good things about the Cold Steel mini tuff lite, the benchmark mini onslaught knife, and spyderco persistence.

Im really looking for the best knife in that size category 2 " blade or a little bigger is fine because it seems to be the one knife he doesn't have in his bag yet.
Price point up to about $100.00

If none of those knives really strike you.... taking all the input I can get!

Help me out!

Just because I like a knife, doesn't mean he will. What does he typically carry?

P.S Love that you want to buy him a knife, that is very cool.

I would recommend a Spyderco Delica 4. It comes in several colors and has a 2.88 inch blade. This knife will run about $60, plus shipping. So, its well with in your $100 price range.

benchmark mini onslaught

I believe you mean Benchmade :)
and speaking of them, you can go to their site and make him a customized griptilian in his favorite color and have them laser-mark your name in it ;) haha, is a pretty neat little program and I'm sure he would love it!

If you can find one of the recent Meerkat sprint they're awesome! Spyderco also has the Dragonfly or Delica and for little more monies and there's the Leafstorm and Techno

Ok... really sorry about that. I know its Benchmade. I work at a state park and someone was just asking me about benchmarks! weird.

I really really like the delica. after some reading some people said that the black titanium doesnt stand up very well. I think the black out looks sexy on all knives. True or not?

He has a few brands that are his go to with spyderco i think being number one or Buck.

I like the idea of having it engraved I will have to check out the knife itself. My name? little tacky you think? maybe his own name?

haha I didn't really mean to put your name on it, it would just be funny. :D I'm sure putting his name on it would make him happy. The mini griptilians I think would be perfect and probably easily out perform his bucks (no offense to buck people) and its just under 3". if you wanna check out all their options just go to the benchmade site and click on "customize a griptilian". I just feel that the customization makes then perfect gifts. the price is about 15 bucks outside your range though since you can't go through a dealer for the service. If you just wanted to get him a black mini grip you can find them for 60-70

Composite blade kershaw leek CB1660, and get it engraved on the handle maybe? Or an S30v Blur, that's very popular.
Spyderco Sage CF, Stretch, Delica 4 in ZDP, Manix2, these will all fall under your budget and I'm sure he'll be thrilled with any one of them.
If you're lucky, you might even find a Paramilitary 2 that falls within your budget.

yeah I agree with gooeytek. I'd you can find a well priced Spyderco para2, that would be a fantastic choice

Meerkat by Spyderco. It is a Sprint run (special run) for 2012 in burgundy. 2" blade in a very fine blade-steel. Extremely popular knife, in that whenever Spyderco discontinues it, lots of folks demand that it be reintroduced. I'd really like one myself. Also makes an excellent moneyclip. I highly recommend it.
Also is in your price-line.

Another vote for the Benchmade Mini Griptilian. Spyderco Meerkat and Delica are also nice. Oh, and don't forget to check out the Spyderco Ladybug. It's very small, but I like it a lot. I own all those knives and all are good choices. I gifted a ladybug to a friend and it was well received. But a mini griptilian would probably have been even better received ;)

Spyderco Dragonfly, Spyderco UKPK, or Spyderco Native 5.
I would personally go with a Native 5 because he probably likes locking knives. If he would be okay with non-locking, the UKPK is awesome. The dragonfly is my favorite little knife.

If the unthinkable should happen, and you two split up ...he won't want to carry a knife around with your name on it. It would make his next GF annoyed. If however, you engrave HIS name on it he'll always remember the cool GF that bought him a personalized mini-grip

thank you to everyone for posting. I went with the Spyderco Delica because I heard the name come up a lot. It had tons of great reviews and seems to preform quite well. Not to mention just a sharp looking knife. I swear I looked at 5000 knives. I have had his name engraved on some other gifts so i decided to leave this one as is. Maybe at a later date I could get it engraved. Who knows.

Thanks again everyone, I know he will love it!
