I've been trying to find a knife to fit a certain niche for me. I'm looking for a locking folder, 2.5" blade or less, with a pocket clip, less than 2 oz. I have the gerber paraframe mini to fit this need but I'm looking for something with better blade steel. Any suggestions you have would be appreciated.

I looked at the Al Mar SLB but it might be a little 'chunky'.

Thanks.

Fallkniven U2, 2.5" blade of SGPS, but you'd have to put a clip on it. So far my favorite knife in the size range.

The Dragonfly is really nice, but the handle might be a little small for you rhands.

Years ago, I lived in a city that limited blade length to 2.5" or less. I'm a big guy (6'2") with huge hands: I wear XL or XXL gloves. So, no small folder felt good in my hands.

I ended up going with an Extrema Ratio BF2 Pitbull. It's got a full-length handle with a stubby 2.5" blade. The blade is wide and has a generous belly. It's full flat ground with an appleseed edge profile. Great slicer for such a small blade!

Looks kind of goofy, but really works. They've been out of production a while, but you should still be able to find one.

IMO the best knife under 2.5" is the Cold Steel Tuff Lite. I say this as someone that owns a pile of small Spyderco knives--the cheap ~$25 Tuff Lite is better than all of them:

It's cheap, but it's a little beast of a knife that will work and work and work. The finger choil gives you a great grip area. The only downside is that they have some rough spots on them out of the box (I usually break the edges of the blade spine and round all the sharp bits on the grivory handles) but otherwise the Tuff Lite (and even smaller Mini Tuff Lite) can't be beat.

As an alternative I recommend the Spyderco Cat--even though I have a bunch of Dragonflys and Kopas and whatnot, it's the Cat that I carry most out of that bunch. I like it so much I have spketch custom scales on it (the scales are worth more than the knife):

Spyderco has some that would work well. A.G. Russell has a nice one that he sells under his A.G. Russell brand. I think Benchmade also has one in that size range. KaBar has the mini Dozier, but I'm not that fond of the pocket clip on it.

Except NYC ... where I live :(

Knife laws are pretty dopey around here. No locking blades or one-hand openers allowed. And no folding knife can be "carried openly." Believe it or not, the little bit of handle sticking out of your pocket counts as "carried openly." Even the clip itself has been interpreted as "carried openly."

Basically, only small slip joint folders carried in a pocket is allowed. I've started using an old Opinel to cut my cigars and stuff just to be on the safe side.

I have a beautiful Rosewood handle Boker knife , 3" closed, with a 2 1/2 blade old traditional folder. Maybe something like that would work

Spyderco Spy-DK

It is based on Spyderco's UK Penknife and goes for about $35-40 bucks.

Great blade steel too. N690Co, I think. Made in Italy.

Check the blade length. It might be 2.6 inches.

Pick a spyderco. Many models available. I have a dragonfly I beleieve and to be honest it probably gets the most use besides the kitchen knifes.
