Hi. I'm just wondering what's available in traditional folders with D2 or carbon steel blades between 2" and 2.5"

It can be a slipjoint, lockback, or a Case-style liner lock. I'd like to hear any suggestions.

The intended use is EDC for opening boxes and cutting plastic and cardboard packaging, going at least a day between sharpenings.

By the way, the blade has to be shorter than 2.5" because I need it for when I visit Cleveland or Boston.

GEC patterns #25 or #26 are just over 3" closed so have blades just over 2" for their mains. The Tidioute and Northfield brands use 1095 carbon steel.

The Case Swayback Jack (2-blade) or Gent (single blade) in CV steel is also the right size, at 3-1/5" closed.

I'd say a GEC 25 with Sheepsfoot or Wharncliffe blade would be just the job for your needs. Check Great Eastern's website with the dealer links for pictures, ideas and more.

The GEC #25 gets my vote too.

Perfect for what you will use it for and built like a tank.

Sorry for the bad photos.

Ugh, why does finding the knife pattern you want for sale have to be so frustrating? I've been through several distributors' websites now, and I can't find the #25 with sheepsfoot/wharncliffe style blade with plain wood handle excepting in 440 stainless.

I've never had this much trouble finding a particular product since the dark early days of Internet shopping.

Edit: I've now looked through all of the distributors sites listed on GEC's web site. When I put this much effort into finding a product, and I haven't even found the item I'm looking for, let alone several I can compare prices between, then someone on the other end must not want to make a sale.

Here are some pics of my #25 wharnie when I first got it. You may also consider a GEC #61 Congress/Half Congress or #62 Easy Pocket Congress. A Case Peanut is good too. Just slip it in your pocket and forget about it.

I'm aware of a #25 like mine but with Bocote scales. Enable email and I'll send you a link. You can also check the distributors GEC lists on their website and then go through their inventory.

Edit:
And GEC's 440c is pretty good...

Thanks Rick. Quick question, hope this helps others too, but how is that Tidioute EZ-Open? I've had similar in my cart numerous times but never pulled the trigger because it didn't have nail nic. I know it shouldn't need one but I like options. Its the reason I went with the wharncliffe #25 and a Great Eastern sheepsfoot #25 instead.

No nail nick necassary in my opinion. There's plenty of blade to grab onto and pull er open.

In all honesty, on this particular model, I personally would not use the nail nick even if it did have one.

Hmm, I just discovered the Boker Small Gaucho (also called the Medium Gaucho by some vendors.) which is a 2 1/2" blade version of their sodbuster.

Does anyone have any experience with this model, or the Boker sodbusters in general? If it's a decent knife and the steel holds an edge well, it could be perfect for my intended use. Also, it is very inexpensive.

Trand that bottom most and top most EZ opens are gorgeous. I love the orange bone in that!

Case makes a single-blade mini-trapper in stag with a CV Wharnie blade, which would be perfect for your use, that is 2.5".
