I am looking for a fairly rugged folding knife with a 2.5 inch blade. This has to do with the laws in my area. I have a Dragonfly which is even smaller than 2.5 and the Techno has a 2.55 blade but a shorter cutting surface. I also found the Benchmade 482 which I hadn't heard of before. The Strider PT-CC has a 2.75 inch blade and a 2.25 inch cutting surface. While the law says the blade must be shorter than 2.5 inches, perhaps that is referring to the cutting surface as opposed to the entire blade? That would add a few more options. Any suggestions in addition to the knives I mentioned above?

Cold Steel Tuff Lite. I would NOT count on the law applying to cutting edge rather than blade length. Some LEOs/courts might agree, but if you run into one that doesn't you could be borrowing a headache.

Kershaw Scallion

Cold Steel Micro Recon

Boker Plus Keycom (& most other Bokers by Chad Los Banos)

Blade length, for legal purposes is generally measured from bolster to Tip. Since I don't carry "modern" lock blades my only suggestion since you seem to be looking at lock blades would be a Case Mini-Copperlock

The DPX H.E.AT. has 2.26" blade, its a tough little knife.

In the size range your looking for the Kahr Delica and Heat would be good choices with the Delica being lighter and a little more pocket friendly. I carry a Heat, I like the size of the handle, it's fills my hand enough for a full 4 finger grip with more thickness than the Delica. The Heat does cost more, but either are great knives.

A spyderco Dice. Small enough. pretty good steel. great fliper.
And it's a Spyderco

Thanks for the suggestions. I had noticed the Kahr Delica before due to its awesome blade shape but the FRN handle is a deal-breaker. The HEAT seems perfect though, I had also seen it before but was uninterested due to the bottle opener-I rarely, if ever, use one-but when I read that it (in the reviewer's opinion) works better as an opener than Emerson's Wave I decided I must have one.

In my search I came across two other knives that are under 2.5 inches: the Spyderco Chubby and the ARS Flip shank.

Rough Rider Heavy Duty Lockback (2.5 inch blade) only about $9 and you could add a Kwik thumb stud if you wished.

LLAP

Under a 2.5" absolute restriction, I would probably carry a Cold Steel Tuff Lite, a Sak, a small slip joint, or PERHAPS a small Schrade USA 50T. The 50T cutting edge is 2.5", but extends a tad longer if you include the ricasso.

Added: The Delica exceeds the 2.5" blade length but it is under 3". The cutting edge is a hair over 2.5".

I would take a Spyderco Dice over a Chubby. The Chubby has a very shirt handle.

Chris Reeve Umfaan, if you can find one. 2.25 inches. Will be pretty pricey as they have not been in production for many years.
