2.5" or shorter blade with Axis lock?

Does BM make such a thing? Have fallen in love with the Axis lock but would be nice to have something that I could EDC without having to stash it somewhere before going into Federal buildings or onto school grounds (I live in VA near DC.) Am thinking that even a mini grip will be "too big" enough to raise eyebrows if noticed. Thanks!

the smallest knives with axis lock are the 707 and 470 I think. they both have similar blade length to the mini grip but their handles are much, much thinner and low profile. I actually prefer the 707 over the mini grip due to the handle's thinness.

Although discontinued, the 770 seems to be the smallest axis lock and slimmest profile folder BM has made.
These can still be found on the secondary market for reasonable prices.

For lack of a better pic. The 770 is the 2nd from the top in CF.

Thanks for the replies... guess I'm just out of luck unless I come across a 770 and feel like pushing it. In the meantime I guess I will have to keep looking for a small knife that I like... I've carried more traditional knives but I definitely would prefer a modern folder with thumb studs, pocket clip, etc. (but probably with more traditional looking scales, either hardwood or I'm liking some of the micarta ones I've seen.)

I guess this must be an unusual request and one maybe unique to DC-land? A 3" blade would keep me out of trouble in VA but Federal buildings require 2.5". A micro-Grip would seemingly be perfect, or I guess I could just take a mini-Grip and grind the heck out of the blade, but that seems a little brutal.

I did drink the kool-aid and ordered a 551 yesterday, even though I said I was going to find some Spydercos to try before making a decision. Probably going to change the scales on it though...

Plenty of folks on this forum offer regrinding services. Just buy a sub-3 inch blade and they can take care of the rest for a relatively low fee.

you could try the bone collector line if you want an axis lock with walnut handle scales. its essentially a mini grip with a different handle it has a 2.9" blade

I like that... not sure about the thumb hole but other than that, nice. The black/green G10 is sweet too. BM just makes so many products that I could spend days looking at their web site!

Hi,
I was unable to find a BM that small and ended up getting a discontinued SOG Bluto folder (extremely well made; definitely beyond SOG's current folder offerings, and can still be found online) when I went looking for less than 2.5 inches with an axis-like lock, (also has a thumb stud and pocket clip). The Spyderco line has numerous folders which also fit the size requirement, although no axis-like locks that small.

That looks like a good recommend, aesthetically not my thing but functionally ticks all the boxes. So if my carrying an ugly knife offends anyone, change the stupid laws :) Looks like that has full liners, does it use phosphor bronze washers like a BM or plastic? My Flash 2 is so old it has the old straight line lock that works like a right handed axis lock not the newer style arc lock, after reading up it looks like the arc lock is fairly well regarded so this looks like a great suggestion for me.

Hi,
I looked closely and it looks like plastic washers. You know, aesthetically, it didn't thrill me initially, either, but after carrying it and using it for awhile, its tough well made stubbiness has grown on me. The aluminum scales have an interesting and surprisingly grippy feel, also.
(The "flipper" doesn't really flip the blade out; it just pushes it out a bit. Does make it slightly easier to get to the thumb stud, and acts as a guard when the blade is deployed. I usually just go straight to the thumb stud for opening.)
If you get it, let me know what you think.

The city of Boston also has a 2.5" limit. I've often toyed with the idea of grinding down my old 556 since I have friends that live there and I don't carry it any more (upgraded to the Ritter mini).

Here is what it might look like.

do it with a straight edge and put a swedge on it, it could come out pretty clean, stone wash it to match the surfaces... cool!
