I am looking for a 2.5" slip-joint knife. Here in California, the law requires a non-locking blade 2.5 inches or less when at schools. When I am at my daughter's school I usually carry my larger locking folders, but I do want to be in compliance with the laws as much as possible.

I really like the Sypderco Urban. I know the blade is 2 9/16 inch, but I am not worried about the extra faction of an inch.

What other options are there. I would prefer a high quality US made knife with hole or stud for opening. (I know the Urban is made in Japan, but I would prefer one made at home if there are any good choices available.)

One other question about the Urban. Can you tell me the difference between the Urban blade styles? Leaf shaped vs Warncliffe. Why would someone choose one over the other?

Thanks,
Adam

Go with urban. Its really best (only?) knife on the market that fits your needs.

The different blade shapes are just so that different users can find the one that suits their tasks best. Personally I prefer the leaf shape. It does a great job of making a small knife cut like a big knife but the Warncliffe has its fans to.

On the other hand if your not dead set on a one handed opening knife there are tons of choices, since your really only going to be relying on it for very short periods of time, with few if any cutting tasks I don’t know why a nice bone handled Stockman or Peanut wouldn’t work.

I believe the Orange Wharncliff Urban blade is a tad shorter than the leaf blade. I own the Orange Urban. I love it.

To answer your title question:
- the Buck 303, a stockman style.
- Victorinox makes a smaller version of the Tinker with 2 1/2" blades (The regular Tinker has 3" blades).
- Or you could get a Case Peanut or A Case Tiny Trapper.

What about a congress?

You get four blades that you can put different grinds on for different cutting needs.

Boy, what an open-ended question, lol. I like my Case Seahorse Whittler. The main wharncliffe blade is thick (2 springs) & just over 2" long. The handle's 4" long, so you can grip well.

The GEC Barlow is another good one. Although it's a little short, at 3" closed, the blade's at about 2" & stout.

Case's small Trapper &/or a med. Stockman would be good, too.

Good luck.
