i was looking at 2 of the red class BM knives... (please dont hate on red class, i get so sick of hearing that they are not as good, etc...) i am looking at getting the rant bowie.. then i looked down the page in the new 2006 BM catalog and saw the rant bowie DPT and they look about the same, the blades are slightly different but the sheaths are different oo.. anyone have these blades and can comment on the difference or the reputation of either of these BM makes?

I do own a Rant Bowie, that I LOVE. I got it brand new for $40 at a knife show. It is the fixed blade that I keep in my truck. The DPT has a longer blade than the Bowie. One is a drop point (DPT) and the other is a clip point. It is a very comfortable knife to hold, at least it is to me!!! I had been wanting one, and saw it brand new for $40, and could NOT pass it up.

awesome. i am wanting to get one, i just thought it looked like a great fixed blade, so i wanted to ask. thanks again

I agree: excellent handle, light weight, nice blade profile on the DPT.

One caveat, though, as I just posted in another thread: the blade is very deeply hollow ground, with a paper thin edge. Great for skinning and slicing, lousy for chopping. If you intend to use it for the former and not the latter, though, it's a fine knife!

I am sure you already bought one by now, but...
I have a rant DPT and love the blade, handle, sheath, and all. This knife is the reason why I don't hate the EVIL red class ;) ! I say buy them both!

I have the Rant Bowie and love it. It's a great knive for a good price. I would not call it the pride and joy of my collection but it has it's place.

My Barkies and my Rangers are my priude and joy of my collection. The Rant has it's place, like was mentioned. I like my Rant.

i was thinking about getting one for deer season.. the sheath looks nice actually and would look and feel great on my belt when i go into the woods this season...
