Where can I find this 2 blade/1 backspring pattern in carbon steel? This is my grandad's Case 06247PEN. I like the idea of having 2 blades but with 1 backspring to keep things thin and lightweight. Seems like a pretty basic, traditional pattern but I haven't found one like it anywhere.

Case still makes a carbon steel model like that, but only in yellow delrin.

EDITED TO ADD: Ah, you're right, the yellow pen they're making now is smaller than yours.

Thanks for the Eisenhower suggestion. I guess I should have specified a desired length. The one pictured is about 3 7/8" closed. Case Eisenhower is 3 1/8" closed.

i wonder if you have tried ebay? you might be able to find that same knife if you are lucky...or a very similar one.

don't know about the backspring arrangement, but here is a canoe at 3 5/8

you might also want to look into a muskrat pattern. as far as i know, they are all two bladed with a single spring.

the moose pattern may be another to look into.

The only patterns I've seen recently with 2 blades and 1 backspring are canoes and muskrats.

Queen BTW makes a real nice canoe in D2 with Birds Eye Maple scales, also in 1095 with bone scales.

ChrisY, That knife of yours is a 06247Pen 3 7/8" XX Case You might find one on Ebay as has been suggested. I don't think Case still produces the pattern.

I think the 06247PEN was made thru the 10 dot era (1970-1979) -- in carbon steel of course. After that I'm not sure. So ePray is probably the best bet there - you should be able to get a decent deal on some of the later ones with some patience. In current production you can get the 32087 CV, which is the same configuration in carbon steel, but is 3 3/8" instead of 3 7/8".

The premium stock in a two blade, one spring configuration is one of my all time favorite patterns.

I have a book showing a 06247PEN as a two blade texas jack which has a spey blade. The knife pictured appears to have a pen blade which would be an 06244pen. the o6244 however was only 3 1/4". If it is in fact 3 7/8 I guess that spey blade has been well used or reprofiled. I really like that pattern after looking at it.

There are, in fact, a couple of these on eBay from the '70s. I believe that the one I have pictured is dated 1940 - 1964 based on the XX stamp. I guess the steel would be the same however.

Chris, I have several of those - it was my granddad's knife too. I have his from the 40-64, one from they 1965-1969 era, and a couple from the 70's including one in brown jigged delrin that is on the slippie swap meet thread.

You can also check ebay - search for 06247 and 06247PEN They are the same knife. Not all of them say 06247PEN - some just have the 06247 on the tang. I''ve never seen or heard of one is stainless.

Actually, the 06247 and 06247PEN both have pen secondary blades, or at least I have never seen one with a spey secondary.

There is one with a spey that has stag handles - 05247SP - which is old, extremely rare, and many $$.

All 47's are built on the 47 frame which is discontinued - the three blade 6347, 63047, etc.. same 3 7/8" frame. The 06247 is just a single spring two blade version The knife pictured @ 3 7/8" is certainly the 47 frame and not Eisenhower, 44, or 87

It's unfortunate that Case has alot of very nice old patterns that are not produced any more. Maybe they could bring back small runs of some of the old patterns once in a while?

But on the other hand, at least we still have Case. With Schrade and Camillus gone, traditional pocket knives at a using price are getting scarce.

In fact, there are several nice ones out there right now. Nice pattern. I would imagine a single spring at 3 7/8" in carbon is a tough one to find if you are looking at newly mfg knives. I have an old Western Boulder with faux pearl handles at 3.5", in that same clip/pen combo. I like to carry it sometimes. The slim profile is sweet.
