A really nice fellow that works with me gave me these two today since I'm a "knife guy". I would like some info on them.

One is an 885uh with a two line tang stamp that says SCHRADE+ on line 1 and U.S.A. 885UH on line 2. 7180105-885UH is on the paperwork.

The other is a 5uh with a two line tang stamp that says SCHRADE+ on line 1 and U.S.A. 5UH on line 2. 7180995-5UH is on the paperwork.

Any info would help. Year made, etc.

Going to move the to the Schrade Collectors forum.

That friend of yours at work really is a nice guy. Very nice folders. Can't help with the dates, but the "Schrade +" stamp means it is stainless. Up until about 1997 it would be 440A. In the last few years before they shut down Schrade + was 420HC.

Both boxes are 2003 -2004.
The 5UH came with that nice nylon sheath, you have the set. Nice friend... Ken: thumbup:

885UH King Ranch, name changed to Senior Ranch in 2002
1973 to 2004 when MSR price was $44.45

5UH
2003 and 2004 when MSRP was $43.95
These bring big bucks sometimes on ebay.

I concur with the above info given on the identification. If you look at the paperwork you will likely also find a late (2002-2003) copyright date confirming what the boxes suggest. Keep them as-is for collectables or put them to work, your choice. America still works with Schrade! Be sure to thank your friend profusely!

It's an honor to have you on my thread sir. I can't even tell you how many of your posts I've read since joining. Much respect.

I've heard them referred to as a "set" a few times. Any reason why? Are they the two models of a particular style or handle material? Just curious if they need and should stay together.
I gave my friend a few coins as the tradition dictates (do people still do that?). I'm on the prowl for the right blade to give him to return the generosity. He doesn't know that yet of course.

I'm learning stuff every day. Thanks for the info on the meaning of Schrade+

The 5UH could have been sold in 2002, as the 55UH was exclusively sold by Wal-Mart in 2002.
The 55UH was a slightly larger knife.

Hey Koldgold, you pretty much have one of everything, do you have a 50UH? Do you have any info on them? I don't think I have ever heard or read an explanation for the 50UH, (it being the same knife as the 5UH). Mis-stamped? SFO?

I did not know Schrade made a 50UH, do you have a photo of one.
I have that type of knife in Blue bone (2003), Wood "Ducks" (2001 2002 2003 2004)

Schrade even made a smaller green handled 53OTG and the bigger 55OTG in 2002-3. Ken.

I don't have one anymore. I believe this photo is from thawk, showing the 5UH and the 50UH side by side.

I don't own them any longer, but thought they were the same exact knives with a different stamp. There are some comparison threads.

Here's a 55UH with a liner lock. Same frame with a lanyard hole.

Thanks for the link, Koldgold and Thawk for the pictures. I guess the 50UH is another one of those Schrade mysteries. Wish I still had one, just for conversation sake. I still have a 5UH a 55UH and a couple of the 5OTG. It is a nice pattern that I like to use. The 3OT is a handy little critter that I used to carry alot too. I kinda favor drop point blades.

The 55OTG came after the 5OTG and the smaller 53OTG came after the 3OT.
I like the little 3OT, if I stop using my old 881 I have been using since 1973; I will replace it with a 3OT... Ken

Koldbold - I knew that... I think I learned it over on AAPN

Thawk, every thing I know about Schrade knives, I have learnt from Blade Forums, AAPN and members like you.
Dale Vincent is always about when I need his help; and everyone here will always help with their knowledge.
I can not count the number of knives I have had sent to me from members, with not cost at all to me.
This is always a good forum to stay close to... Ken :thumbup::thumbup:

All About Pocket Nives......THAT'S FUNNY! For a second I was thinking, what the heck is AAPN. (out of 180 emoticons, not one laughing to tears) You guys kiss and make up. Your pillars of the forum, now act like it! :D

I've learned more here on BladeForums than A.A.P.K, but many of the Usual Suspects I credit frequent both places.

Some people don't get my cents of humor. And you are correct, sometimes the appropriate smiley isn't on the list.
