After visiting with Doc Canada, Phil and Tonym in Hamilton I headed up to visit with my buddy and colleague at his cottage. He has a nice little cabin on a lakeside, but also owns a wood lot of about 26 acres. Abutting the woodlot are a series of wetlands and I gave him my old coleman canoe to put out there for a little exploring.

This is my buddy, his wife and their dog.

The first part of the lot is an open field which they are thinking of building on.

Lots of mullein there to make lamp wick's (See Doc's thread) or practice at hand drill. This stuff will make some good drills later in the fall.

Lots of black-eyed susans.

This tree frog was hanging out on his shed.

For the first day, I was playing with my B. Andrews bushcrafter. Then I switched to the Culberson/Wildertool combo for the overnighter.

All packed up and ready to go!

Found the canoe about a 40 minute hike into the bush or so....

Even though the Coleman is now my buddies', this little boat has a lot of memories for me. It was actually purchased from my very first job as a corn-detassler at the tender age of 12. Funny thing is that I payed more for it 28 years ago than a new one costs today!

Some shots canoeing through a beaver damn produced wetland to the small lake I settled on.

Tore a hole in my pant leg, but thankfully had a little sewing kit in my PSK. Yeah, my sewing skills suck, but it kept the mosquito's and deer flies out.

Set up my Hennesey Hammock along with a 12' x 10' Etoweh tarp. Makes a great combination and super comfortable sleep system.

This was the little lake I hung around for a couple of days.

I said it before and I'll say it again - you sure do take some nice pictures.

I used my little hobo stove for cooking and fire needs. As this was backcountry, but private land, I didn't want to make any open fires. The fire in the hobo stove prevents scarring and provides a smaller but still mesmerizing flame for night.

Did a little bit of fishing. Here is a small smallmouth bass that went back in. I also caught a few edible sized yellow perch that I munched on.

Thats about it folks. It was nice having a couple of days of alone time. Well not really alone. As soon as I arrived at the woodlot, I was greeted by 8 deer flies and they stayed constant companions the whole trip.

Fantastic pictures. I envy your friend having some nice property like that.

I really like the looks of the BA bushcrafter. I still want to get one of those someday.

Its a nice a blade. I'm told I get to pick up my Bitterroot model from Brian today so I'll post something about that tomorrow!

Nice group of photos Ken. That's a great little Culbertson too.

The Culberson was used almost constantly during the overnighter. The S-curve got a little action chopping and a bit of splitting, but for the most part the little blade was my goto blade. It even did a great job filleting the perch!

Wow! Those are some really great photos!

I'm with jds1 on that Culbertson, what a usefull little blade.
