Two deer now and the thing is great. I just got home and after field dressing the deer (I didn't think it would work well for that) and splitting the pelvis and sternum, it still shaves hair.

Saturday, the same thing but I used it to skin it also. I didn't think it would work for that either but it worked like a charm. I touched it up Saturday and it was ready for tonight.

Better start making them Rodger, the design works

Man
Don what have you been using all this time for a knife   :D :D
do a whole Moose up with it with-out a touch up. test that baby out :D

No pics of these Scott. Just 2 doe and it's been so warm I had to skin them and get them cooled ASAP. 75 today and a little warmer Saturday.

That's Moose, not rugged whitetails :o

I can only say that I either need to start buying knives from you or I have a higher expectation of sharpness. :footinmou

I know what you mean about the temp. I like to let them hang a bit, but the temps have been where it's necessary to do um up right quick. Sounds like that knife is working out great.

I was pleasantly surprised Scott. I didn't intend it to be used for these things but they handled it with ease. It actually unzips them better than my old Loveless drop point design.

I can't take any credit for it though. Rodger drew up the basic design. He took a customers sketch and changed the things that he felt need changing. Mines a little different but his would work just as well.

I haven't managed to fall out of the stand yet. I did go to sleep Saturday but had my harness tight enough so I didn't come out. I will try to do better so we can see if the blunted point is successful! :D

Two years ago, my best friend had Danny Gray build me a custom knife. I appreciated the knife because it was made
specifically for me and it was the only one of its kind. The first time I used it to clean some fish and later to gut
and skin out a deer, I realized what a great knife it is but never realized the true value and what an exceptional
knife it really is until I used it to gut out a 766 lb. moose. While getting ready for moose hunting, The Maine Moose
Hunting Guide, and a friend said to make sure and take extra knives as they would dull very quickly. The
only knife I used was the Gray knife and even used it to cut through the pelvic bone when I realized I didn’t have a
saw or axe with me. I bent the blade just a little but the knife is still sharp. Thanks Danny, this is one remarkable
knife. Ronnie Green Plymouth, Maine
Hi Dan, My daughter shot her first deer yesterday, she really didn't want to gut it out herself but agreed to watch and
maybe try it next time. My knife www.kynd.com/~graydg/knife148.html did one more job and is ready for
the next. Do your knives ever get dull? Actually, it will probably need a touch up by the end of the season.
Love that knife......... Ronnie Green

Funny you should say that Don; I am heat treating one now and have another to start. This one is of O1 and the next will be of D2.

Sre am glad for the deer work feedback. Sounds great.

Speaking of feedback, here's an e-mail from a guy who has one of my D2 4" drop point hunters down in Texas
"Scott,
I got a chance to use the knife that you sent me last weekend on a Nilgi cow. It was an easy job field dressing and quartering the animal with your knife. Some of the guides were impressed with it as well as one of them used it on a wild hog. Thanks again for the knife and I will be using it more in the near future and I will continue to send you feedback as well as photos.
Thanks,Stan Willson"

Either steel should be great Rodger. You are a better man than I, using D2. I did a small D2 patch knife a couple of weeks ago and it made my belt supplier very happy. :grumpy:

I really am surprised at how well it handles the things I throw at it. As I said several times before, the best survival knife is the one you have with you. A knife that is a true user is always with you.
