Just got a rajah III from the exchange and i like it execpt i cant sharpen it,,the edge has 2 very different angles,,just like the 4" ti lite i had,,,I actually had a post here somewhere about the ti lite,,i sent it out and it came back a bit sharper mabey it had been cleaned up a bit, but "NO" difference in the angles.

I called CS today and told them that,,they said send it in and it would be repaired or replaced,,i said that what i was told about the ti lite which neither repaired nor replaced and that my apprehension about sending this in. Furthermore i am uneasey about buying more cs knives that i am interested in.

What to do,? send it in and wait..

get a diamond plate and reprofile it yourself, makes things much easier and cheaper. if your into knives, knowing how to reprofile and keep a constant angle is quite handy and will defnitely help save you money if you keep sending them out to get sharpened

possible consideration, its ashame that CS cant have some consistaency with the edge, Also i am not sending it out to be sharpened,,i have a sharpmaker and a lansky,,i prob could reprofile i have no idea how to do it,

I reprofiled a ti lite once, depending on the size of your 'collection' and how much you use them, it might be time for a sharpening system like the WEPS or EP, or maybe something like a diamond stone.

I too have a Lanksy with the Diamond course (my reprofiler), and stone grits 280, 600,1000,2000 then a strop with some green and black compound once I restock.

Personally id say start sharpening some cheapo knives free hand (free hand is much quicker then any clamp system, EP and WEPS exempt) then once you find an angle that works well for you and one you can repeat consistantly itll be a breeze. its feels/sounds very different when changing an edge angle by hand but once you get a consistant angle down youll know what "feels" right and the edge will come soon after.

ps DO NOT get the extra course lansky stone, its like 50-80 grit and is too course to reprofile easily. just get the Diamond course stone, less mess and fuss.

You can send it to someone like RichardJ (uses paper wheels), Knifeknut1013 (uses whetstones). I also sharpen peoples knives.

I agree, however I would add that anyone that owns and uses a knife be it at work or at home in the kitchen needs to learn to sharpen.

if you like the knife, send it by richard J. he will put an edge on there like you would never believe and it will be even. I have never used him, but judging from what I can do with paper wheels, he can do amazing things.

True words. And I went from a low to medium self sharpener, to a medium - high(er) skill level. Primarily from advice and threads read on this forum...That's too bad about buddys C.S. experience. Everything that I've gotten from them has been rock solid and working to insanely sharp. I just got an XL Voyager that could shave the skin off a grape. What I had to learn this year, or what became clearer for me, was a blades grind angle had a lot to do with how sharp I was going to get it (Dependant upon design and material). I've clued into reprofiling for better sharpening\cutting efficiency. Unless I have a big chopper meant to have more of a chisel edge as opposed to a scalpel. Still learning here but some clouds are parting.

I have many cold steel knives with aus-8. This grade of steel is quite easy to sharpen compared many of the harder knife steels.

Waste of time and shipping costs in a knife that you are going to use, learn how to sharpen. The worst you can do is lose 1/8 in of blade height while learning. Don't be afraid to start off with a fine file to get your bevels before stones.

I have a few knives with off bevels and they still cut well, just does not look "perfect". Just adjust a little while sharpening, ends up convexing over time.

well than can i just hit this on the sharpmaker for now, and hang onto it?
You just phrased the solution to the issue in the form of a question. If it is meant to be a user, it will get sharpened eventually right? *If it's not a user, it doesn't matter how sharp it isn't. Right?

*Borrowed from Esav :)

Welcome to factory manufacturing. This is actually a bit of a pet peeve of mine, but there's nothing you can do about it so I just got good at re-profiling my knives. Almost every knife I own (mostly Spyderco, Kershaw, and Benchmade. 60+ knives total) came with uneven edge bevels, some of the most uneven had the highest price tag. If you want to avoid this problem, buy a Sebenza.

I don't trust any company to get the edge right. Doesn't matter to me because I'm going to reprofile it to a lower angle anyway.
