Updated photos below post #12Well my 2 dot 110 came while I was at the office today. So here it is. When my 15 yo daughter heard me talking about it last week she asked if she could buy it from me for my Christmas. So it will most likely go to the spa and if it makes it back in time go under the tree. Sorry for the poor photos but was in a hurry.

I like it!! Buck's spa treatment will make that look nearly new. I would think you would have it back in plenty of time before Christmas.

Nice grain to that one's Macassar Ebony, Looks to have lots of life left in it as well. Nice score

Thanks guys. I'm excited but I'm afraid it may have started a new addiction. I must ask on the spa. I send it attention to Joe Houser and include $6.95 correct. Any suggestion on how to address it? I hate the tought of writting "Buck knives" on it. Just might tempt someone.

Well I dropped it in the mail yesterday so we will see how it turns out.

Was told today 2-3 more weeks. I sure hope it makes it back for Christmas.Looking forward to this knife.

Well dont liik like it will be back before Christmas.:( Just spoke to them and was told again 2-3 weeks. Said it was done and in process of packaging.

Well I finally got it back . I'll probally get flamed for this but I'm a little disappointed. After seeing the magic they have done one some knives and after waiting 2 months to get this knife back I dont know what to think. They did a good job on the blade but to me the brass looks just like they polish it without taking any of the indetions out. Maybe I just expected to much after seeing the work they have done on others. You already seen the before pictures so here is the after. To me just a shinier mess.

Sorry but I dont think it was worth the 2 month wait.
This picture you see the blade looks good but still all the dings in the bolster.

Looks nice. IIRC in the older brass there can be inclusions or voids in the brass and if you try to buff out dings that are too deep you run the risk of exposing those voids and you're worse off then when you started. Just how far they can take it down is a judgement call by the employee doing the spa treatment. Least that's what I seem to recall reading.

There is definitely a balance between getting dings out and not going too deep.

Pirsig reminds us that quality is that which gives (the individual) peace of mind. Or, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

IMO, a 2 dot 110 is a war horse from a bye gone era. I'm coming to believe that they just don't make them like they used to. Those dings and dents are like scars on a fighter's brow. I would use and carry and covet that knife *BECAUSE* of the dings, not in spite of them.

If you want a flawless looking 110, you can get that at *mart any day of the week. But it won't be a 2 dotter.

I think im with ky on this,
I would be slightly dissapointed if it came back like that.Thats just me maybe im expecting to much

It's disappointing, but as was said in another thread, trying to remove those "dings" may just make things worse. I'm with pinnah, if you want one that looks like new, head to the 'mart. If you want one that will make a great user, put that one in your pocket.

kyhunt,

I sent some knives off around the 8th or 9th of November and didn't get them back until last Saturday. From what I understand, the warranty and repair folks get a little backed up between folks sending in their hunting knives, as well as all of the holidays in the short period of time. Just something to remember if you have to send something else in.

I think most of the poof job is focused on sharpening and buffing the blade. The dings don't seem deep and could be sanded out and then buffed up to a shine. Word of caution, if you get on the ebony while sanding you'll degrade the wood's old patina it's developed. My guess is Buck intentionally avoids this risk esp when the wood is in good shape like yours. Bit of a balancing act.

But it's not as nice a cleanup job as I would have expected either.

yes the two dots i think did have an issue of tiny holes in the metal
i had a two dot i tryed to get back to nice and some of it cleaned up some got worse
it is a call on the part of the spa worker
some have complained if it got worse...
but that was how it was back then

Thats a forged brass frame from 1974 a oddity, rare for a 2 dot era model 110 as they had porosity. Refer to the recent article in the Dec. newsletter by Bert Lindsay. DM
