2 Eric - What kind of HT HC has?

whats the deal with that anyway.

Is he not with SwampRat anymore??

I'll go out on a limb and say "Proprietary" heat treat. I don't recall Jerry ever giving details of his heat treat. I could be wrong. I know it takes a while vs. regular heat-treating. And I'd assume that if we don't know it for the rest of the steels, he'd not be jumping out to tell us what he does to 154CM. I know very little about heat-treating, but would love to know how Jerry does it - just to watch what it does to steel.

This just seems to be one of the closely guarded secrets at BC. Sort of like if he uses JWB or the pee of young Scottish boys for the quench. (Inquiring minds really don't wanna know if it's the latter. LOL)

Just assume its normal heat treatment, all the secrecy around heat treat and metals used has more to do with marketing than actual performance (yes I also mean infi).

The knife is good and if it breaks you have a great warranty, what elso do you want.

I'd agree with you. . . except other makers have gotten pieces of INFI before and their finished products lacked the Busse-esque qualities of the steel. INFI itself is not a spectacular steel without proper heat treatment. Tests time and time again have proven heat-treat makes a HUGE difference in the hard-use knives that Busse creates.

This is why I asked this question - 52100 with their HT are very good. I like to know does they do same magic for CM154. I will be very interested to see same special HT on this steel which did this to 52100. But let see when Eric stop ignoring this forum and have answer.

Thanks, Vassili.

P.S. I saw him recently banning some kids around... Hope he will pay attention to this thread as well.

My understanding is that they do a cryo treatment after the regular heat treat. However I doubt 154CM gets the same exact treatment as SR101, different steels require different temps and quenches and such.

Not so much hijacking as making a point? :)
