Here's some more....... http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=667533&a=9677925

Wow, that finished up nicely.

The blade looks great.

But, I'm a bit concerned about the top skeleton hole. That's the fatal flaw in Bear's handles. The material gets to thin and to weak near that top hole and the handle eventually breaks. Benchmade addresses the problem by making each hole a successively smaller diameter. But, They learned that by making a lot of balisongs.

This one really looks nice.

BTW, you might throw a standard ruler into the pictures occationally to give folks a sense of size.

What, no latch??

LOL........ sorry, I couldn't resist.

Sweet! But Chucks right about that top hole. There's just not enough material left in that crucial area to withstand the pressure of manipulation.

Other than that, you're kickin' serious butt dude. Keep it up!

I'm addressing that flaw in the one I started last week. I'm modifying my jig so the taper won't be so accute. I thought of putting bolsters on it to strengthen the handles and still could. The new one will have handles of 303 stainless with micarta inserts; haven't deceided what blade style to plagiarize this time.............maybe a Mariner or how about a Reverse Utility???

By the way Clay, the next one will have a latch; I'm also going to use 5/32" blade stock to give me more 'wall' thickness and greater strength since the handle stock is 3/8"x3/4" instead of the 1/2" square stock I can't seem to find...........

Dawkind, I like the deep taper, why don't you just decrease the size of the holes by 1/32" or so, as you go up the handle. That should leave enough material at the top.

BTW, what do you use for the pins?

I really like the insert handles more than I do the skeletonized so this will probably be the only one like this. If I would make another, I'd take that advice. Bali-Song USA, according to Les' patent, started with 5/8" square stock that ended up tapering from 5/16" at the handle pin to 1/2" at the latch end, but the width remained at 1/2" the length of the handle. The handle was then turned/ground so that the handle was circular for 'manuverability'. My next one should be the nicest so far. The pins are from Koval Knife Supply http://www.kmg.org/kovalknives/ They're like $3.00 per set.

That is really awesome looking Dawkind!
