Big Chris sent me these for testing for the steel ranking thread and we decided while I have them here I would put them through their paces.
Top knife is CPM 3V.
5" blade
.015" behind the edge.
Bottom Knife is 440C.
4.5" blade
.022" - .025" behind the edge
Both knives were reprofiled to 15 Degrees per side and finished on a 400 grit Congress SIC stone before testing.
Ran 5/8" Manila rope and cardboard as the testing media, cut the Manila rope until the knives reached 17 LBS then then went straight to the Cardboard without touching the edges to really push them to see how good the HT was.
Rope Testing
Both knives performed excellent and took no edge damage as in rolling or chipping, no shiny spots on either knife, number of cuts were 120 for the 440C knife and 180 cuts for the CPM 3V knife, both knives were still sharp after, had good bite and would easily slice printer paper clean after.
Cardboard
I cut cardboard until the blades started to lose some bite, but would still slice printer paper as in the knives still had a usable edge.
Followup and ending thoughts.
Both knives performed excellent, I was very impressed overall with both knives, but the 440C knife really stood out to me personally as it was VERY comfortable and more of a utility design that suited what I was doing with them. If you are looking for a quality Custom fixed blade check out Big Chris Customs for sure as they are top notch IMO.
