First of all, I'm looking for two knives. Both should be fixed blades, and companions for my mini griptillian. One will be a utility/beater blade, the other will be more of a SD implement.

The two I'm considering are...

Columbia River 2232 Crawford Fixed Falcon CRKT, Plain Edge.
This will be just a generic utility/beater blade. AUS 6M steel, so it's not as good as 440C, but is it decent enough for light utility work? This is cheap, around 15$, so it's gonna be practically disposable.

Second,

Smith & Wesson SWHRT3 H.R.T. Military Boot Knife,Plain Edge
This will be more of an SD implement. Would this be sufficient? Also, what are carry laws for a knife such as this in CA? It's only got a 3.5 inch blade, so it's not overly large or anything, but should it be 100% legal to carry, even concealed?

BTW, I'm not looking to pick fights or anything...but you can't be too careful, right? Besides, the latter one is gonna be more of a collection piece than anything, probably not gonna see regular use.

Thanks in advance

The boot knife would clearly be a dagger in California legal terms and therefore could not be carried concealed. Even the Falcon might be considered a "dirk" and likewise should not be carried concealed. California is more lenient about concealed folding knives, but is very stiff on anything (possibly even a screwdriver) that you can use to simply draw-and-stab.

I copied this from the California penal code. http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/calaw.html

12020. (a) Any person in this state who does any of the following
is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year
or in the state prison:

(4) Carries concealed upon his or her person any dirk or dagger.

(24) As used in this section, a "dirk" or "dagger" means a knife
or other instrument with or without a handguard that is capable of
ready use as a stabbing weapon that may inflict great bodily injury
or death. A nonlocking folding knife, a folding knife that is not
prohibited by Section 653k, or a pocketknife is capable of ready use
as a stabbing weapon that may inflict great bodily injury or death
only if the blade of the knife is exposed and locked into position.

If I purchase the S&W just to have in my collection, not to carry around or anything, I am still 100% legal, correct?

Something else...
Knives carried in sheaths which are worn openly suspended from
the waist of the wearer are not concealed within the meaning of this
section.
This means, I can carry it on my belt?

If you are currently thinking about the Smith, consider the Gerber Guardian. The quality is much better.:)
