2 man logging saw blade dye how do I remove it HELP Please

I have been making knifes from the old time 2 man logging saw blades and have been removing the dye with fine sand paper is there another way of doing it is there any kind of liquid remover I could use if so what would works the best

Welcome to the forums! Glad to have you with us.

I use the blue Dykem stuff. Acetone will take it off. You could also try nail polish remover.

I have one of those old 2 man logging blades, about 6 foot length. I was thinking of sing it for some blades. Do you know what type of steel they are typically made of and how did you harden and temper? I just what to have an idea of what to expect if I use it.

the 2 man logging saw blade is made of spring steel the knife blades made from it hold a very sharp edge I dont heat treat
them

How do you cut the saw blade, grind it, and turn it into a knife without overheating it and ruining the heat treat and hardness? Just curious. Thanks. Alex

I trace the design of the knife blade onto the saw blade with a scribe and then I use a dremo cut off wheel it works great for that
