Two of the bowies from Bill Bagwell's DVD.
Hi to Joe and Blade Forum mbrs! I received a copy of some raw footage that Mike Sastre and Bill had made some years ago and that had some of my knives featured in it. The first screen shows Bill holding a Hell's Belle with the DVD's title "The Gospel according to Bagwell" then moves on to a forging demo where Bill is wearing this Damascus HB. During the cutting scene Bill uses a carbon steel HB and a Vidalia Maiden against some hardwood planks to emphasize the capabilities they possess. The DVD has a sentiment written on it signed by Bill to myself. The Damascus HB has a 12 1/2" blade which has a tightly grained pattern and some exceptional lines which hearken to Bill's rare Rivers and Streams pattern. These blades do not come easy even for Bill because he has to orchestrate several qualities into them without jeopardizing the strength and integrity of the final product (which means he has to walk a fine line all the way) This is one reason for the cost of
high end Bagwell knives, they are labor intensive! The Guard is made of damascus while the spacer and collar are iron with cocobolo coffin handle. It also has the distinction of being the Ad knife when Bill ran one in Soldier of Fortune magazine some years ago. When he sold it to me Bill advised that this was a landmark bowie, a real milestone keeper and I've heeded his advice. The board splitting demos were done with my eagle head HB which was featured on the cover of Bill's book (2nd edition) and a Vidalia Maiden which I sold at a local Show. Although they are designed for speed in hand they both made the board cut and still shaved hair from Bill's arm. They have eagle head handles and weight disappears once in motion, balance is superb and is what makes training a positive experience! Big thanks to Mike and Bill for their labors and to Joe and Blade Forumites also, Sincerely, Bob Furusho
