Picked up a Ebony Sway Back Gent, and a G-10 Humpback Whittler. I had never heard of that ebony swayback before, until I saw it in Smoky Mountain Knife Works on the way home from the Blade Show. I had to have it! This is super nice. A knife I have been waiting for... I hope Case uses more Bose patterns. Flush backspring in 3 positions and fit & finish is excellent. Everything is polished, which looks really good. Also the knife came super sharp! I am a sharpening nut and I usually sharpen every new Case knife to get my preferred edge, but not this one. I am impressed.

The Humpback is also very nice. It feels really solid. I used a Dremel to turn the spey blade into something more resembling a clip-point. It is not the prettiest compared to other work I have seen out there, but it did the trick and I like this blade much better now. It also makes the knife a little more comfy in the hand when using the main spear blade because the point of the spey blade spine is gone.

I think these 2 Case knives are home runs. I foresee these being 2 of my favorites for a long time.

Wow! I really like the looks of that swayback! I think that's my favourite Case pattern and the ebony really sets it off.

Haven't seen the ebony sway back before, it looks great. Stainless or CV blade?

This a special edition confined to one dealer?

Looks very nice indeed, I've got the Chestnut Bone cv and the Bermuda Green ss versions. Both have top of the range finish, no faults I can detect.

Super knives offset by some fine pix:thumbup:

I really like the Humpback whittler very nice looking knife. I have a Green swayback that is just a tad to small for my liking, but it is a fine made knife. I would definately give them both some pocket time.

Thanks willgoy-
I asked them that very question, and they said it was not, but they did not sound too sure about it... They told me they have had them for a few years, but I think they may be more recent than that. The box has a March 2009 date on it.

I have the humpback whittler and really like it. Two things would have made it damn near perfect: a long pull on the spear and coping instead of spay. I bypassed the swayback because after years of carrying small knives I finally figured out that 3.5 is kind of a minimum in my large hands.

The swayback in ebony looks great but that humpback in black G-10, with swedged spear point, and old time shield really appeals to me. Nice looking pair!

Mark- I certainly do agree with you. I think a long pull would look great on the spear, and I would personally have preferred a coping blade or sheepsfoot to the spey. But I am happy with my mod on that spey blade to make it closer to a clip-point. I guess my ideal 3 blades would really be main spear, clip, and sheepsfoot to be honest. There is room for the main spear to be a little longer also, but that is not a big deal to me.

The blades are set nice and low in the frame. Almost too low! But the cutouts allow good enough access to the secondary blades. I often file the kicks on multi-blade patterns, but no need on this one.

Thank you texasflyfisher. I like the elegance of the swayback contrasted with the sturdiness and solid feel of the Humpback.

Agreed on the length of the spear as well. I've noted people have said Case tends to have short blades given the frame size. I go back and forth liking clips and spears but have never wanted to replace a pen with anything. I can't really get into speys so I use them all the time on trappers and this one unless I need a point. Coping is probably my favorite secondary followed by sheep and wharny. I can't quite make out your clip mod with that background.

All these things noted I still dig my humpback. The ss has taken a great polished edge and kept it pretty well. Although the mirror is pretty I wish Case made more in satin especially CV which I can't bring myself to let patinate quickly. Never had that problem with OTs!

I almost picked up an ebony swayback myself the other day.

I passed when I noticed the rivets don't match the bolsters. Are they brass? I wonder why they didn't match them?

Still a great knife, but I'm starting to get very selective with my knife buying now.
