Just finished these 2 for a customer. Both are 1095, forged blades, flat ground, clay-backed edge quenched and finished for a hamon. Blades are 4.5inches each. Hirazukuri pattern, yoroi-toshi type spine.

#1 (Beaut) has black G-10 stacked and carved bolsters with a MOP inlay, very unusual stabilised Mango burl (Yup you got it, Mango)

#2 (Beast) has olive-green canvas Micarta handles with a Del Raso style 2-tone finish for a pseudo-bolster look. Heavily contoured as above, but with plenty of traction grooves for a super-sure grip. Pins are black linen Micarta. Any suggestions fo further work on the handle would be appreciated.

Thanks for the look. Jason.

Do you ever sleep? Just wondering, as you continue to post spectacular looking blades on a regular basis, and I'm jellous! Great work.

Those both look great, but I really love the olive drab one! Wow, I bet you could use the hell outta that thing!

That mango wood is good enough to eat! Outstanding blades. What types of sheaths did you do for these?

All the positive feedback. Just recovered from a bad bout of 'flu-like illness. Haven't been so out-of-it for a long while. So naturally, things were a bit wobbly when I decided to attack the workshop again. While making these 2, was always not 100% on the job. They say you shouldn't do that unless you're completely focussed, but, hell, I was bored out of my mind.

I guess my issue with the Micarta handled one is waning a bit. The more I look at it, the more it grows on me. I was ajust a little cheesed that the usual patterns that show when you grind it - where is it ? The customer I made these for is a lot less pedantic than me I think but I was hoping someone out there would have some magical suggestion to tart up that handle. I guess it looks OK now. Handles quite nicely actually. Those deep traction grooves really suck onto the hand. You need that on a handle shape like that - tapered.

I haven't made the sheaths yet, but the idea was a more fancy scabbard style for the wood handle one and a plain belt pouch sheath for the Micarta handled one.

Thanks for the looks and the feedback again. It looks like this style is becoming a regular for me. Jason.
