2 of D. Darom's books on Amazon for less than $25 each!

Funny you mentioned that Joss... :) I just recently bought David's

Custom Fixed-blade Knives

Custom Knifemaking

The Great Collections (Modern Custom Knives)

For only $75 including tax and shipping/handling from Amazon. That's what I call a major score! :D The books are definitely worth MUCH more than that! :)

I got an e-mail notafication on those the other day.
What a deal, I already had them though.

He's got a couple new books coming next year, can't wait.
There are knife books, AND THEN THERE ARE KNIFE BOOKS.

Yes guys, Amazon.com has second and probably third printings.... But, the
first printing is now a "Collector's item" because of its amazing printing
quality.

And, by the way the first three volumes have already been translated into
FIVE languages!

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Good for you Dr. D!

I am very happy that this is happening. Keep up the great work.

DANG!

The great collections was my choice (the only I dont have so far) but Amazon don´t ship to Brazil. Can anyone help???

I can send paypal in advance! If anyone can help please contact me at jeffvelasco.crm@gmail.com

Thanks!

Those are great deals and I have purchased a couple of them from Amazon myself.

As Mr. Darom said, they are second and third printings from China. They are still nice and for viewing purposes they are fine.

FWIW, I spoke to a the guy selling first printings for $50 at Blade, and there is definitely a difference in quality and richness of the photos. If I didn't already have copies, I would have preferred the first printings at $50 to the Amazon copies.

If you like Edmund Davidson's knives, the latest book Dr. Darom did is really nice and I am happy to have it.

Well David.... guess I should have remembered that you get what you pay for! :o

I have only seen "first" printings, so hopefully I am not completely irked when these show up (just ordered them a few days ago).

I suppose I can keep these as my shop copies... the ones I'm not afraid to get smudged, dirty, etc... And get the "firsts" for the house :)

I am VERY much looking forward to Dr. Darom's book showcasing my friend Tim Hancock!

As a business guy, I have to say I am surprised / disappointed to see a book being re-edited in exactly the same format and a lower standard of photo quality. It makes it very hard for people to know what they get. If the 2nd printing had been made paper back, that would have made it much clearer - just a thought.

I think you will like them Nick. I like the ones I have, but when you look at the originals, there IS a difference in quality. Not a radical difference but it is a noticeable one.

i just purchased the great collections using that link (thanks!!), since I don't yet own that one. And I preordered knives 2009.

Yes, Joss, I thought the same too but my distributor went ahead and did
these printings and then it was too late.... These 2nd printings are good
and even more than that if not critically compared to the first edition.....

By the way, don't misunderstand me, the amazon.com printing IS a terrific
bargain! Just as good a bargain as a book of the first printing should have
been priced at $150 but is sold for $50.........

All the best,

You aren't kidding, Dr. Darom. I thought my second printings of Cutom Folding and Custom Fixed-Blade Knives were of exceptional quality until I got first printings of Custom Knifemaking and The Great Collections. Those two are amongst the highest quality books I have ever seen; the level of detail in the printed photos astounded me when I first received them. The second printings aren't far behind but the difference is definitely noticeable.

Hah, funny that I just saw this thread, because i just purchased the same 3 books that Nick did for 65$ including shipping from amazon with their discounts and whatnot. I've seen copies at some shows i've been to but they've always been expensive (more than i paid for all 3) Even if the quality isn't quite as good, they're still excellent books
