Have 2 very nice Paul Chen tantos for sale only - no trade offers please.
These tantos were part of a set of 8 different and were produced before Paul developed his Shinto and later series. These were very limited productions and there are rumored to be less than a hundred of each style made with no plans to make more. I believe these were produced sometime around the mid-90's. They were imported and sold by Cas Iberia.
Each has an edge tempered blade, genuine ray skin and Japanese cotton handle wrap, and bronze fittings. Each blade is hand forged (I believe 1095 steel) and finished. Each comes with a silk bag and wooden storage case.
The first is the Tiger Tanto (1051-GT). The silvered cap pommel (kashira) is decorated with a tiger in relief and the fuchi (guard end pommel) and scabbard fittings are decorated in a pine tree motif with a matching hilt ornament (menuki). The scabbard (saya) is deeply lacquered in black. A utility knife (kosuka) is fitted. The blade grind is in the hira-zukuri (no ridge line) style fullered in the koshi-hi style (one short fuller to the habaki). Blade is 10.75" long and 0.2" thick. Overall length (without scabbard) is 14.75" long.
The second is the Hollyhock Tanto (1056-GT) - SOLD. The bronze kashira, fuchi and tsuba are decorated in relief with the traditional hollyhock leaf motif in silver, repeated in the menuki. The saya is lacquered black and a kosuka is fitted. The blade grind is in the hira-zukuri style. Blade is 11" long and 0.4" thick. Overall length (without scabbard) is 15.25" long.
The blades appear to be dull as the original shipping grease is still on the blades. May need to be polished some after this grease is wiped off.
Will sell for $260.00 each - includes PayPal fees, Priority Mail insured shipping with Delivery Confirmation. PayPal only on these. Worldwide ok but will be actual shipping cost and at your own risk (not responsible for customs seizures and insurance will not cover that either).
First “I’ll take it” either on forum or email will get it.
Please contact me at chevelless@iw.net. No PM’s please. Please include your screen name with email.
Thank you! - Greg
