Stopped at a local pawnshop and found a new in the box Old Timer 890t Blazer:D Snatched it up right away. Found an Old Cutler 3 bladed stockman with yellar handles. Its in good shape just needs a good cleanin. Im at work and will post some pics tommorow. Thanks for reading.

I never find any good knives in pawnshops! :) Nice find.

Nor do I. All I ever see is the gamut of fantasy knives, a fantasy sword or two, and piles of damaged Buck 110s. Usually the Buck 110s are priced about $10 - $15 bucks over retail, so even with a decent haggle you are still right back at retail.

Gun shows around here are worse. So as not to start a firefight, I won't name any names, but some of the old workman's knives we used to get with 1095 blades and sawcut delrin handles are selling for obscene prices. Good utility knives, no doubt. But $50 and $60 for a used knife that wasn't up to my standard ( CASE/Buck only) back then? Ouch.

I have to admit, I am more than a little envious to see all these great pawnshop finds at the fantastic prices some of you guys find them at.

Pawn and antique shops seem to be a 10% hit rate for me to buy something. I enjoy a quick browse around the shop. Not committed to anything, and then a pleasant surprise and a good deal. I leave empty handed way more often than not. I have better luck at antique shops than pawn shops.

I live in a small town with one pawnshop and over the years have got some real deals there. The best one was a T/C Renegade 54 cal, I don't think it had ever been shot for 60 bucks. Picked up a Buck 307 Wrangler for 10 bucks. I think that the smaller pawnshops are best. I can drive about 10 miles to a bigger town with multiable pawnshops and never find a deal.

I visit one of the antique shops here in Martinez about once a month, and the owner gives me fairly good deals. I'll pay a little more for a knife that he knows I might want, and I help him research some of the odd ones he's come up with. (Boy, Paki quality sure has improved over that last few years, it seems. ) I've gotten a few nice Bucks, old Schrades, and a couple of nice old Frontier Stockmans.

There are other pawn shops and antique shops in this area, though, that I won't even go into anymore. Too highly priced, and too many Pakis priced like high end customs shop pieces.

That being said, I have better luck with the thrift stores here; I've come up with some nice old unused knives, and there's a hospice store here that will save knives for me when they get donated. I'll pay a little more than they ask, just to help them out. (Hospice really helped us with my grandmother when she passed, so I have no problem helping out a little.)

midnight flyer i have to agree with you about some of the old 1095 with delrin. although nothing was wrong with quality for a 15 to 20$ knife they certainly hold no interest for myself. as you i do'nt wish to start a debate but mediocre quality doe'snt make discontinued knives valuable. dennis
