2 phase electric motor help

:D

Something I'll add because I didn't know this myself. I bought a new to me compressor last year that has a massive 5HP single phase motor for it. I found out I had to run a 60amp 8awg circuit for that bad boy. Might be different since that's 3ph but I bet it still pulls some serious amps at startup!

It looks like the shaft on that motor is 1" ? Hard to tell in the photo, but most 5HP motors have a 1" shaft. Most grinder parts use 5/8 shafts. You might have to turn down the shaft to get things to fit properly. Cool motor though. 5 HP will give you massive torque.

I haven’t measured it, but it’s definitely bigger than 5/8” I have a lathe so I can bore the drive wheel. It’s minimum 7/8, probably 1” like you noted.

If it is 7/8” you can find drive wheels to fit. I’m nearly positive my grinder motor is 7/8”.

But can your lathe broach a keyway ?
Fwiw, it can be done. It was a fiddley time consuming process, but will work.
