Hi,

Last week I made 2 new puukko knives from vintage Nicholson files.
First I did some testing for the right heat treat and I managed to get both blades to exactly 59hrc.

The first knife has a stabilized cork bolster, ebonywood and brass spacers, and some pieces of birchbark. The back part is spalted alder, which I found and stabilized myself.

I left part of the original file structure visible, as it adds a lot of character in my opinion.

The 2nd knife has a rhomboid profile, which means it has a diamond cross section, because of the false edge on top.
It has a spalted birch bolster, pieces of birchbark, stabilized cork and a backpiece of very nice stabilized elm burl.

Overall length is 9.5 inches with a 4.5 inch blade

Interested to hear your thoughts, so let me know!

they both look great!! but I wonder if leaving parts of the file pattern there will make the blades drag or bind on the material it is cutting?
if not then I guess it adds extra utility to the blades since they can still file!

I like them
You may want to close the gap between the blade andslot in the first piece of handle material withe epoxy so no filth gets trapped in there

Thank you! It cuts great btw, no problem with drag :)
